Is an aux cable safe to use to play music from my S3 in my car?

I know this sounds silly to ask but I am scared to buy stuff of eBay after what happened to my iPhone. I got this car charger (recommended by someone here) from eBay for my iPhone 3GS and the 1st day I plugged it in, it blew off the motherboard of my iPhone. Damn!!!! A total FAIL.

I have since moved on and got a new S3 (very happy with it), and now want to buy an aux cable to listen to the music in my car. I want to know if an aux cable can also damage my phone or not? I want to buy a better brand like Belkin to play it safe, but the ozbargainer in me wants to get a cheaper one.

Any recommendations? Should I fork out more money for peace of mind? Or is it OK to get one from eBay for $3-$5?

  • Should be ok, just don't try to charge it at the same time. Aux cables just carry audio, no charging current.

  • You wouldnt think so, as it should carry voltage to damage anything through an audio cable.

Although you do seem quite unlucky though, just sayin ;)

  • For your own peace of mind.. get a belkin one from office works or jb for about 10 dollars.. although there are no difference as stated above it doesn't carry any voltage

    • +1

It's unfathomable how an analogue audio cable of any brand (since when did Belkin become a reputable brand anyway?) could do any damage apart from physical damage by swinging the phone via the cable.
Even a short circuit shouldn't do much.

You must be highly unlucky to have had your phone blow up from a car charger!

  • Since they started charging more than other brands :P That seems to be the thinking process anyway
    edit: missed the reply buttton
