What Charge When Changing to a Lower Netflix Plan via Apple AFTER They Have Attempted Unsuccessful Charge for Higher Plan?

So, I've been on the highest Netflix plan for a few years and now intend to change back to a one screen plan. I have been being billed by Apple and still intend to continue.

The most recent subscription charge yesterday was unsuccessful as I don't have enough credit in my Apple account and they don't have my CC details. I usually just top it up with gift cards. They would have attempted a $22.99 charge.

Question… if I change the subscription to the $10.99 sub today and then add some credit after a few hours, will Apple/Netlix still attempt to charge me the $22.99 fee this time around or will they switch me to the $10.99 plan immediately and charge that instead?

Anyone done this successfully without being billed the higher fee?

Edit: Interestingly you can't switch the lowest ad supported netflix tier if going through Apple. The one screen $10.99 plan is the lowest you can go.

I recommend you take a 'holiday' to Turkey. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/780508

    • Probably a few too many hoops… but thanks.

Why think so hard. Cancel the sub first.

    • Cancelling will likely mean I wont be able to pay via Apple in the future (and I've just bought a gift card), and I'm not sure of my viewing history will be retained once I sign up again (edit: seems viewing history may be retained for 10 months if you cancel but don't delete account)

  • I had to cancel my subscription through Apple and re-sign up direct with Netflix to get the cheapest plan

    • Yeah, the cheap plan with ads is not available through apple.

    • Out of interest, did you get to keep the same account and viewing history?

You should. The Netflix account isn't tied to anything when billed via apple. You simple created the account via apple subscription. Your account is seperate. So even if you cancel the account with apple and the. Resign up it will recognise you and all with be the same for up to 10 months
