Transferring Domestic Flights to a Family Member

My wife has a return domestic flight booked through Qantas and Jetstar separately, both legs are Jetstar flights. It looks like she may not be able to make the trip, i may however.

Both the flights are base fare, with no refund add-ons purchased.

Does anybody know if I’ll have any luck transferring the flights to myself? Or failing that, if it’s worth just doing the check in and flying on that ticket myself? Am I likely to get flagged? I don’t recall if there is a check box for designating gender upon booking. Using self check- in, is it likely I could just take the flight without changing travellers name, details etc?

  • if it’s worth just doing the check in and flying on that ticket myself?

Sure, if you want to break the law

If convicted of flying under a false name, you could go to jail.

@jv you are a gem, contrary to your pot stirring nature, you add value much more often.

  • They usually don't check ID for domestic flight, however, it'll be pretty obvious you're the wrong sex and will raise some attention……….

      Did you assume my gennder

On the Qantas leg while waiting in queue play some "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!" by Shania Twain on your Boom Box. lol

  • Pretty sure you can get the ticket changed into your name with a fee. Won't be cheap though.

I'm afraid YMMV with trying to travel without a name change. Whilst they don't check ID at check in, ground staff do a logic check when they scan your boarding pass and cabin crew do look your name on the boarding pass once you're at the door.

  • If she has a male sounding name you'll probably get away with it. If female sounding name you might get picked up by check in staff.

Seriously..carry a rainbow yes flag, wear awkward make up and a vote green badge, top it off by having purple hair and op shop clothes…Then go to go to the airport

When you get there claim to now identify as a female and is your name you now want to use.

    They cannot discriminate.

    • This is what crossed my mind, I’m sure Qantas are so woke that they would not dare to even hint at questioning my gender.

Wife is too ill to be able to care for kids, so flights are going to waste. :(

      • If its good a enough reason for rapists get sent to female prisons or a male to hang around a female toilet its good enough for you and this flight

      • Woke….. LOL

  • I’ve flown a few times on my other male names. Never had an issue

  • I used my mum’s return ticket with Qantas last month. Although she has a foreign name, it did say Ms. Before her name and I had no issues at all.
