Weekly Disconnection: Modem or nbn?

Hey all,

I've had this issue of late where my internet goes down every 7-10 days. DSL and internet lights go out A normal turn off and on of the modem router doesn't reset it anymore like it once did.

Usually it takes me going into the router settings and setting up a new connection for it all to come back online

The router is a TP-Link wireless N about 2-3 years old. Not flash but given the fact it works perfect for 7-10 days before this issue happens again, I'm just trying to figure out if it's an NBN issue or my modem.

Guessing another modem and a call to internode would be the first stage of troubleshooting here. Thoughts? :)

Cheers

You really need to swap it out another modem to test it…. or you could also try updating/reflashing the firmware.

Internode maybe able to shed some light on the reason for the disconnections… maybe,

  • My bet, based on personal experience, is the modem. I'm my case it was a Asus ac68 3-4 years old. No issues after replacement. Updates/reflash did zilch for me

  • I had similar probs and it ended up being the modem. I was lucky enough to have a spare from another ISP/RSP so I just switched them and boom, rock stable.

  • I have same issue (may be once a month) but happened with two different modems. Now I just reboot it every weekend (why bother?).
U can get something like this to automate reboot if you like (https://www.bunnings.com.au/hpm-24-7-slimline-digital-timer_…)

    • I recently ordered some of these
      https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005097656872.html

Haven't arrived yet but I'm keen to test them out

      • Interesting, When does it initiate restart? based on time? or monitors wifi?

My units arrived a few days ago. Only tested them briefly, but they seem reliable. They shutoff power for about 5 minutes every 24 hours.

They're only rated to work up to 15v, and annoyingly it turns out the asus routers I have use 19v.

  • Who’s your ISP?

    • a call to internode would be the first stage of troubleshooting

      I'd guess internode.

  • Hey all,

The cause is still a mystery but tends to be looking more like a line issue. I tried a backup modem with tech support and the wan light still won't come on. They lodged a fault with NBN and said it's either their issue or if not internal wiring.

    • Hey I have been having this issue and on the verge of getting a new modem, did you end up finding out what the issue was?
