It’s half price, that’s what makes it a ‘bargain’. I haven’t tried it, and I haven’t done my shop yet this week so can’t comment. Other people may already use this so just highlighting the special. Also some people who have used it can comment on their experience of it.

Don't be a (mod: edited). It's a bargain but OP does not have any reviews on it.

      • +3

        That's a bit harsh 😂 I've been p boxed for less

Not everyone can afford a Lewinsky.

  • This stuff is garbage man, but for $2 I'll tolerate it. Liquid gets enter cleaning results

    • +1

      enter ?

    • +1

most of the problems with the cheap stuff is residue because it doesen't dissolve properly. I just keep a cheap shaker in the laundry to pre-disolve it & have had the same results as any other brand ever since.

I've been looking for this in a couple of large Woolworths stores in Sydney and can't find it. I don't know how good it is but only intend to use it on my workout clothes on a quick wash cycle just to get the sweat out of them. I'd be interested to know if anyone can find any stock.

    • +6

It says in stock at Town Hall - but who knows with the stock checker accuracy.

If for quick wash and gym clothes, I’d probably go a liquid. Both coles and Woolies do a cheap 2l liquid for $2 https://www.coles.com.au/product/coles-laundry-liquid-lemon-… or https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/search/products?searchTer…

For that purpose I use the coles wool wash as I like the smell, but it’s $4 https://www.coles.com.au/product/coles-eucalyptus-wool-wash-…

      • +2

Yep 1 step ahead of you. I ended up buying that $2 liquid at Woolworths instead and happy with it.

        • I use any of the $2 liquid ones, from Aldi, Woolworths or Coles and they all work perfectly fine.
I usually only by branded softener as they always smell better than the cheap ones and one of them is usually half price.

          • +10

@SimAus007: Softener - another product that you have to not only spend your hard earned on, but is also another chemical that sits on your skin all day and night, on your clothes and sheets and undercarriage! And ends up in our water waste too. No thanks!
(Not a personal attack on you, just my personal viewpoint on softeners that nobody asked for😆)

            • +11

@HappyPants: Absolutely agree. Waste of money, they ruin your clothes and are bad for the environment! I use white vinegar instead.

              • +1

@sabby32: @sabby32 White vinegar? You put that where the softener would go? Does your clothes smell like vinegar after?

                • +3

@Jewdas90: I use vinegar as well and never smell it.

                • +4

@Jewdas90: I use white vinegar for towel, makes them soft and doesn’t ruin the water absorbency. However I do pick up the faint smell of vinegar, it’s not too bad though.

                  • @Pidapipo: Citric acid is another alternative to vinegar and has little to no smell.

  • +1

I've tried Coles $2 laundry liquid once, the smell was a bit pungent. Have to go back to OMO

    • I have the same issue with this cheap ones.

    • Normal OMO? If so, how’s it compare to the more expensive OMO’s if you’ve used them (Ultimate and odour eliminator)?

    • +1

I only use Biozet Attack liquid, with softener built in for clothes and without for anything else. I don't know if it's the best but it's just the brand I've relaxed into. Started because I was sitting a cat that would pee and I read Biozet had the enzyme to neutralise the pee.

    • +4

OMO is way too expensive, but this essentials is terrible. Let's meet halfway: Aldi's Almat laundry liquid. It's actually really good.

  • +3

I use this regularly. Its good.

But seems to be out of stock everywhere in VIC :(

    • +1

I've been using it for years. Best to dissolve it first in hot water. It's fine, IMO.

  • +4

if you can't find this, try the aldi almat powder or the coles ultra powder, both have very good reviews on Choice

    • +1

I used the "Aldi award winning laundry powder" & its so good it randomly stripped colour from clothes.

      • Yep powder can definitely fade things. I only use it for white and light coloured clothes.

For dark and bright colours I use radiant black wash https://www.coles.com.au/product/radiant-blacks-and-darks-la… which just so happens to be half price this week too. Any stains get pretreated with the aldi purple spray, and this routine seems to work well for me.

        • what purplespray

        • radiant

why this brand have so many variations
but i cant tell them apart

such as mixed colours and "whites or colours" huh and you said dark & bright

          • @capslock janitor: I use this exact one https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/660226/rad… (only buy it when on special) for dark or brightly coloured clothes, even though the description is black and dark. I use this one as I don’t want the clothes colour to fade. It started when I pretty much wore black jeans most of the time and noticed that powdered laundry detergent would fade them. So in our house there’s a three compartment laundry hamper one big section for towels and linen, one section for light and white clothes and one for dark and coloured clothes. Dark and colors get washed in radiant black wash. Towels linen, and white and light clothes get washed in cold power powder. This is a routine I’ve found over many years works. Before radiant black wash I used to use the Aldi black wash, but it was discontinued. I find many brands have too strong a smell, so that’s a consideration too. I also tend to keep a laundry soaker like sard in and will add this to the white light load if there’s heavy stains, I have a young child so do this quite a bit. I would never use the laundry soaker with tbe dark or coloured clothes as again it would fade them. That’s where the Aldi pre treating spray comes in - I use this on dark birthright or white light clothes. Often I’ll pretreat days before actually doing the load for things like berry, tomato or blood stains.

I bought one box of this discount Woolies powder which I’ll use for our ‘cleaning towel’ load. These are a set of towels that are old/torn/ripped and only used for cleaning up spills, drying mopped floor etc.

This is a deleted line, replaced by the 'Clean' branded $5 box.

    • +7

Is that how they increase the price for price locked items?

      • +4

That's how they did it with dishwashing powder. Was $2 for a kilogram in a box, then it was gone, and then next month you could get the same powder in a plastic bottle for $4. Coles followed suit. It's all part of a plan to remove the cheap options so that the midpriced stuff looks like a better deal.

Luckily soap powder is a pretty basic product, almost entirely sodium carbonate. Its used in pools and many other places, so it should be possible to buy it in bulk cheap. Its just annoying

      • +1

Likely. A lot of 'Essential' branded items have slowly been phased out and rebranded under the phantom brand name, or deleted entirely (eg. homebrand disinfectant).

    • After buying a new front loader I did a little research and the ‘Clean’ brand at woollies came out on top of all , next was Aldi Almat at the same price.
They have changed the packaging for the Clean stuff from 2kg box to this 4kg one for the same price , seems to still work well so I don’t know if they changed the concentration ,
I only use 1/2 a scoop and could probably use less .
But this deal is good , if you can find it .
It’ll be on the bottom shelf .

  • +1

Have used this before and it works fine. Seems to do the job without leaving any overpowering scents.

  • This is like the first time it has ever gone on special

    • +3

I think it's being discontinued. I don't think essentials items normally go on special.

  • +4

Woolworths Essentials Laundry Liquid Clean Wash and Bosisto's Laundry Liquid Sensitive performed no better than plain water.

There's a whole list in which powder version also sux.

      Choice are fools

    • Wow so Choice tested 150 different ones, but I can't find Biozet in their list.

  • showing OOS on my stock checker closest 5 stores

    • Mine was the same but updated and became in stock during the day. SE QLD.

  • This scored 53% when tested by Choice, slightly better than water only at 47%. Best value is probably the Aldi Almat Laundry Powder Concentrate Sunshine Fresh Front loader which was the third best at 80% and costs $5.49 for 2kg.

I do love choice, but I find some or their ratings a bit off. I generally use cold power for light and white items and in the most recent ratings it rates high but in previous lists very low similar to this product. I also think there’s not a lot of context to how the product is being used, ie, water temp, type or clothing etc. eg. A really good detergent for stain removal might fade dark or coloured clothes, some detergents like this one might work better in warm water. It also can’t control what cycle people choose to use. Some need more or less time to impact the stain. And many people boost with soakers or use pre spaying/laundry stick. There are a lot of nuances to how people choose to laundry. For me this is a great deal for people on a budget. If necessary pre dissolve in warm water and use a longer cycle so it has time to work. People have to get kids into clean school uniforms etc and I think if used right for the machine and situation this will do the job.

FYI if you trying to help ppl in need you shouldn’t post it here

    • +1

I don’t know about that, I think people with all sorts of budgets access OzB and if you make savings across all of your purchases your overall expenses can reduce dramatically. I’m not across some of the other things such as travel, IT or finance deals like other OzBargainers , but I’m pretty across groceries so contribute where I can. I honestly feel you can be smart about shopping and make a difference overall to your budget and use this to invest elsewhere
