Hollyland Lark M1 Wireless Lavalier 2 Mic Kit - $165 Delivered @ Hollyland AU via Amazon AU

Price is $239, but comes down to $165 after coupon (click the $74 coupon tick box). Been watching price for this two mic kit for about 6 weeks now nearly daily and this coupon has only appeared today.

According to camels^3, $165 is the cheapest in this products limited time on Amazon's listings.

This was not marked by amazon as explicitly an 'early prime day deal' - so maybe wait till Monday just in case there is a further drop.

I have spent an almost ridiculous time watching youtube and tiktok reviews about this and comparisons to DJI mic, and Rode wireless go II and tbh - I'm still not sure if the other two are worth the dosh for a beginner like myself looking to start an informal 1:1 youtube interview chat show.

(+ amazon has pretty flexible return policy)

  • i'm starting a podcast, any recommendation for a good mic?

    • -1

      Sennheiser MKH416 P48U3

    • +4

Note you can also use software to get away with a lot of things. E.g. Nvidia broadcast if you have an Nvidia GPU.

    • +1

Are you starting that OzBargain podcast? I have been waiting for that for the last 2 years.

    • What was wrong with the HyperX SoloCast?

    • +1

If u r starting, Logitech H340 USB Headset with Noise Cancelling Mic is good for starter.
      Don't pay so much.
      It has great mic feature.
      And cheap.

Rode NT USB Mini is a good starting point :)

      $43 Behringer XM8500 https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0002KZAKS
$18 USB to XLR Cable https://www.amazon.com.au/Female-Microphone-Studio-Adapter-A…
      $44 Boom arm https://www.amazon.com.au/Microphone-Heavy-Duty-Suspension-C…
      $105 total

This combo has last me 3 years (and counting), always get compliments whenever I join voice calls, and didn't get crazy sensitive like most table top mics.

Only con is that you have to have it to your mouth for it to work 🤷

      • +1

Ah the ol' assembly mic, I knew him well

      • Thank u

      • Cardioid mics always require that!!

    • +1

Most people starting out get a Blue Yeti. affordable, sounds good

  • What's pictured in middle

    • +7

      malcolm

(if you mean the middle of the case, its the receiver that connects to camera mic port, or phone if you have the compatible cable)

    • +1

that is the receiver. it lets the wireless mics send a single stereo channel to your recoding device

  • +3

Only downside compared to Rode and Dji afaik, can't plug in an external microphone (like a wired lapel as an added option of interest). But its half the cost of the competitors

    • This doesn’t have backup track either on board and less than half, rode is 381 atm been as high as 395 in last 6 weeks

  • looking to start an informal 1:1 youtube interview chat show.

Are there more than a handful of people that would actually spend their time watching a couple of randos chatting to each other?

    • +7

It’s really more for my own enjoyment and recreation rather than anything. I’d be flattered if anyone more than the misso, and maybe my mom gives a pitty sub.

      • +1

        Fair enough.

      • +4

I'll sub 100% and plenty will if you put it in the forum.

You're the seal deal. 11 years here. Almost 16,000 comments. You're family.

    • +2

At least if he has a lavalier mic for each person speaking, anyone watching should be able to hear what is being said without lots of background noise

  • +1

I received my youlanzi yesterday and tried today. Very good quality! It only cost $50 ish.

    • That did also pop up on my feed a few times when watching the hours and hours of YouTube reviews but the j12 was designed for phone (as far as I can tell?) but this is more designed for dedicated camera - with option to adapt to phone.

      • what does that mean, phone vs cam?
I have a wired lav with a phone vs cam switch, never knew what it does.

        • J12 plug straight to phone doesn’t seem to have Trs out for mic port

  • Still holding on and hoping for Rode wireless to go on sale. Needs mostly for outdoor shoots. Will this cut a deal though?

    • +2

Around start of year the rodes went as low as 300 ish… I’d prob pay the extra for ‘brand name’ and iirc the rodes were designed in Australia too (I think there is an ozbargainer on here who’s friend had a leading role in it)

I’ve bought this mic. I purchased the single microphone version for $145.

This dual version for $165 is a no-brainer. The audio quality is really good. I’ve got no issues with mine.

  • Are they good for outside noise cancelling? … looking for Insta360 1inch. I know Go and DJI are compatible but never heard of this one .

    • The noise cancellation seems pretty good from the videos I’ve seen - that being said , at least 90% of the videos were either sponsored or incentivised so ymmv

  • No idea how the audio quality compares but I bought something similar on Ali for about $30. Looks like I can't paste the link here so… try searching for J20 lavalier microphone or message me if you want the exact listing I bought.

I didn't need anything too fancy / was just looking for a step up from my phone's onboard mic, esp for when the subject is further from the camera and/or in noisier environments. Have only used it briefly so far and it seems to do the job.

  • Guys. Can I use this to connect to desktop machine for gaming? How about Microsoft Teams calls on Laptops?

    • +1

Technically yes but the faq says they recommend using dedicated sound card mic Jack otherwise may have grounding interference

  • +1

ordered, gonna create free lessons on fire spinning

  • These are omnidirectional., but normal lav are single directional right?
You want it pointing to their face so you don't catch other noise?

    • Well it’s marketed as being clipped to shirt collar -ish area - where else did you want to mount it? I saw a video of someone who had it clipped closer to mid chest and it sounded fine. Otherwise consider a bit more for the ride mic wireless go, which has optional lav out option

      • I'm not sure. I saw lav mic are hidden behind a lapel or some sort. But this is right out in front of their collar which I thought you wouldn't want.

        • The Dji and rode are like that too in the videos I watched. I guess if you didn’t want it seen a lav hooked to the rode or Dji or similar would be the go, or get a lav with a recorder like from tascam etc

    • Lavalier mics can be either omnidirectional or unidirectional (cardioid mics):
      https://www.audio-technica.com/en-us/support/basic-audio-tec…

Most of the popular lavalier mics are omnidirectional.

Reviews sound good (in both senses of the word.)

    • +2

If Dji or rode kit on amazon doesn’t go on sale Monday I will get these and call it a day - exhausted from all the review watching

(I also noticed this is now the best seller in the category on amazon au, it was previously the rode kit)

  • +1

Ended up getting https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0BPGPFQ4T for the same price (if you include Hollyland USB-C cable.) Only 4 in stock now.
    https://au.neewer.com/products/neewer-2-pack-wireless-lavali…
It has more features and inclusions.

Couldn't find any reviews (except Amazon ones) - hope I made the right choice!

    • +1

I guess if it gives issues just return it - amazon pretty flexible with returns. I ended up ordering this and an apple 3.5 to lightning adapter for use with my phone (mainly used with my cameras though).

Can’t imagine the neweer one being too bad - I have some neweer gear and for most part has done the job.

      • Ordering the hollyland*

We can send each other some recordings and see who's wins. 😉

    • +1

It arrived today, first impressions are very good.
Did some quick tests on Windows and Android and it works well. Only problem I found so far is stereo mode doesn't work with Windows for some reason.
I even got a surprise when looking at the label underneath - it supports wireless charging! This is not mentioned in the spec's or manual.

  • USB Type C to 3.5mm Male Headphone Jack Adapter for Hollyland Lark M1/150 Microphone, Audio Cable Compatible with Android Smartphone

Are these universal or specific to Hollyland ?

    • They have a single cable that can do it or yeah you can prob get an adapter to use with the bundled cable - I got the apple 3.5 to lightning adapter
