Tablet for photographer - Business use. Recommendations?

Need a tablet for the misses to show clients her products and her work. Laptop is getting too much of a problem as it is too heavy and always breaks. She is an AIPP accredited member (takes her profession seriously, none of that 'I bought myself a $3k camera therefore I am a professional photographer') and works as a wedding/portrait/glamour/baby photographer full time, as such I'd rather pay more to get a good and reliable unit. She would be using it a lot as many initial wedding inquiries/meetings are done away from studio, usually client's choice on site.

I'm looking at something with a high resolution that can display images in the correct ratio. Still haven't decided what size tablet, maybe around 10".

Considering these units:
Asus Transformer Infinity
Ipad 3
Samsung Galaxy Tab 2

my problem is…does she need such powerful units? Again, this is solely a unit with a sole purpose of displaying images. Would like to save money on functions if we don't need it.

The requirements:
Must have minimum resolution of 1920 x 1080
Must have either micro-HDMI or HDMI output to link to TV
Must have USB port

Any suggestions and advice would be much appreciated.

Ipad has better resolution for those photos and the ipad looks good and presents well to anyone. I am personally an android fan but for photos Ipad 3 takes the cake. You just have to buy the accessories or wirelessly transmit the images somehow.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 — it's actually a more low-end model with last year's Tegra2 processor, similar to the original Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. There are a lot better buys out there.

If it's mainly showing photos, then iPad 3's Retina screen would probably win out here. Very sharp and great colour reproduction. However,

    • It's 4:3 screen. Photos and videos are either 6x4 or widescreen.
    • It does not have a USB port (assume you want it to be a USB host).

Transformer Infinity — it's a bit expensive but a great tablet. Check out this deal from B&P Photo Video, where at the moment you can get it from US for ~AUD$515 delivered.

Transformer Infinity it is, though it does cost the most(around $200 more with the dock) and you would have to have the dock or buy an adapter to use the usb port. The dock also gives it additional battery life of up to 4.5 hours giving it up to 40% better battery life.

Also has a microsd slot for extra storage compared to the ipad 3.

  • Yes agree,
Transforer Infinity (With Dock as only way to have standard usb port) would be a good option for the above requirements.
So with the dock itself cost you about $150 ($512+150=$672) for a 32G model
You can get the 64G model for only less than $790 at
    http://www.binglee.com.au/asus-tf700t-1b064a-10-1-transforme…
Think you can bargain to at least $750 (750-GST $68.1= $681)
For comparison, Ipad3 64G wifi is also about $749

Since it is for business use , I asssume you can claim back the GST so only cost you about $681 for a 64G model with Dock and local australia warranty (although Asus seems to have a global warranty BUT not sure how it works though?)

    Other potential advantages:
-SD slot on the dock as SD cards would be what most pro cameras use

  • Thanks guys, looks like I'll be getting the Infinity. Might wait a couple of months, see if prices come down further.

    Thanks

Shame the iPad doesn't support USB :(
The retina display would be really great for showing photographs.

      • It wasn't the lack of USB slots that lost the deal. It was more to do with the widescreen support that Infinity offers + Micro HDMI.

        • How does widescreen help if you are using it for displaying wedding/portrait/glamour/baby photos?

        • Photos are generally captured 6:4 ratio. Ipads display 4:3. You will have truncated sides or bottom/top. Same thing happened to our viewing gallery when our website was redeveloped.

  • iPad 3 - Spec Saver uses them for all eye images for example.

Besides the specs resolution and the compatibility of the device is strong.

  • Photos on iPad3 are amazing.

  • iPad 2 is THE best to fulfill all your requirements.

    • Reviving a 3 month old topic..
I think it's a bit late to recommend now?
      What about the iPad 4?
