Where to Get and Process 35mm Film in Melbourne?

I recently got into film photography and I'm wondering where I can both get more rolls and get them processed. I know ted's cameras solves both those problems, but all rolls there are on special order and processing seems a little pricey.

I did manage to get some rolls from Kmart for $10, but they aren't on the site anymore.

Fair enough if ted's is the best spot for film rolls given the short supply currently. Just wondering if there are any better options for both.

Might help to advise your location. Woolworths Town Hall Sydney used to have Fujifilm (I think) photo centre on the top floor which processed old school film. It's since been replaced by Big W but not sure if the photo centre has been relocated elsewhere or completely gone.

  • I’ve bought my 35mm film rolls from C.R Kennedy, a large photo imaging supplier & importer.
I’ve bought my ilford film there on many occasions with no issue.

    Processing- you’ll have to research.

  • Not sure about cheapness but there is a film processing shop in Brunswick St in Fitzroy.

    Heya,

Where are you located? There are a few options:

    Sydney:
    Rewind Photo Lab

    Melbourne:
    Walkens House of Film
    Halide Supply/Express
    Film Never Die

    Perth:
    Silver Halide Studios
    Focus Pocus
    Fitzgerald Photo

Tbh $10 per roll for colour film these days is a steal price. Expect more like $16 upwards depending on the film type. Also note there is a huge film shortage globally so supply comes in waves and beware of people reselling at inflated prices.

    Enjoy your new hobby!

    • I'm located in Melbourne, so I'll check out those spots thanks!

      • Halide Supply/Express are offering $12 C41 dev+scan till the 21st which is cool!

  • This place and there's another a few doors down

  • These guys also sell film rolls and do processing : https://www.photocolor.com.au/film-processing/

  • In the same boat as you in Brisbane, I've been going to Digidirect but their prices are wack for standard stocks (e.g. Kodak Gold 200, Ultramax, etc). Walkens House of Film appears to have the best prices I can see in Australia for those sorts of rolls but they've been out of stock for a while, but if you don't mind blowing a bit more and getting Portra 400 or similar they'd be a great shout for your location along with developing. Decisive Moment linked by someone else in the thread also has good prices.

I've also had some good luck recently on eBay buying in bulk (i.e. 5 or 10 at a time) so that might be worth a look, just had 10 Gold rolls arrive at $17 each.

    • Not sure where in Brisbane you are, but here's a place at Morayfield that might be useful to you.

      • Cheers for that! Morayfield's a bit far for me tbh, I've been going to Digidirect in the CBD for developing (their prices for processing aren't so bad compared to their roll prices) but I'm planning on switching to Fotofast in Taringa, I've heard great things about them.

        • Not many places out there…

I used to develop my own photos and have been so tempted to ask if I can just come in while he's doing that to smell the chemicals again and bring back the memories.

  • I used FilmNeverDie, mostly because it's in the CBD
$10 per roll that's a bargain. Most places is 25-ish now
