Can I leave my 2 year old child with this for a couple of days whilst the missus and I go out on a bender?

      You'll need a water bowl as well…

best to leave the misses as well and go on the bender for a few days. Make sure there is enough in this as may be your food for a few days when you get home.

Seriously? I think it's wrong to assume Fatboy74's lady would subject him to a harsh diet of dry food pellets. Few people are as malicious as you suggest.

Well, not as obviously malicious, anyway. If his missus cooks for him too, she's got years to feed them into his normal diet, and serve them as snacks. Given time, she'll have him serving bowls of the stuff to his mates as "tapas" during Bathurst or The Grand final. And the mates' wives will ALL be in on the joke.

Stay away from any smart home Kogan branded products.

    It's just cheap e-waste.

IV tried my luck with doorbell cameras, PTZ cameras, and smart switches all from and branded by Kogan. You get what you pay for, they are all terrible, everything except the smart switches I refunded.

    Problems I experienced:
    - anything with a camera: the camera feeds through the cloud, and it's a slow cloud, so from when you click to view the camera, you could be waiting up to 30 seconds….at the end of that 30 seconds you might get connected to the camera or it might just time out…when you hear something outside or someone rings the doorbell this is pretty much pointless.
-PTZ: the Pan tilt mechanism broke within a month of use, quickly became a fixed camera with no movement.
-smart switches: 1 was very laggy, the other one become e-waste after I changed my router password, apparently the one I ordered they never thought to make a way to factory reset it. No little pin to stick in it, no holding down a button, nothing, so when my network changed I couldn't use it anymore.

Kogan makes some OK products for their price, but smartphone stuff that is branded by them should be avoided.

    • I'm not knocking what you say, but I've had a reasonable run with a number of their Smart products:
      - Smart Sous Vide
      - Smart Blinds controller(s)
      - Smart Column Fan

Granted, these items appear to be rebranded, and available for less via AliExpress - but at least you get Kogan guarantee / return policy.
      - The Smart Column Fan has run flawlessly / responded to Smart commands on my Google Home network.
      - The Smart functions of the Sous Vide have performed correctly the few time's I've used it.

I have had long periods (9+ months) where my Smart Blind controllers worked flawlessly; after which they stop responding to Google Home commands, but still respond to the provided remotes) But it's a full-time job keeping everything connected with Google, and I feel that the issue is one where my Google Home appliance loses recent configuration during a Firmware upgrade. (In my experience, Google updates suffer from that laissez-faire "we're too big to worry about lost data, Suck-it-up!)

I'm about to rewire everything against Home Assistant (?), wish me luck!

      • I'm all out into home assistant, have completely setup my house with it, happy to discuss in private messages if you need any advice or first hand experience here.

        • I got this dispenser connected to Tuyalocal in HA. Somehow not able to stream the cam but able to dispense. So far it's ok for me.

    • I've got the smart home pet food dispenser and the indoor pan and tilt camera(x2) and they work really well for me. Good night vision, good day clarity, relatively quick connection. Haven't tried connecting to my google assistant yet, have just used the app mostly.

I got one of these the last time they were on sale and quite liked it. Was able to link it up with Alexa and create a voice command to dispense treats. Was very handy for getting my dog to come inside when she was refusing to, the little ding it made always got her running in.

Unfortunately she managed to somehow get the little bit of plastic that blocked the dispenser and so now anything you put in the hopper just falls straight out. Not an issue with the product though, that's an issue with the dog.

  • thanks OP, just got mine arrived today.. download the app and ran a few steps and the machine is ready to go, camera quality is good - mic/speakerphone works fine without much of a delay.. not bad for the price paid either, hope it last!
first feed I got all the food splash all over the floor, fun fun.

    • Nice glad to hear! I don't have a pet but if I did I'd definitely buy one of these to add to my list of home automation gadgets 😄
