Any Place to Really Find a Good Trustworthy Electrician?

Was wondering if there is some sort of place or site that might be good for finding reputable electricians kind of like Amazon reviews but for tradesmen.

Maybe even an ozbargain for finding tradesmen.

I am looking for an electrician in the blue mountains nsw region for a switchboard replacement upgrade and probably rewiring looks like a big job so we are looking for good local electricians atm.

Anyone have any recommendations for good electricians in this area.

  • Have you asked your neighbours and local shop owners etc?

Yeah word of mouth is really the best way.
If you work locally ask colleagues etc. for recs.

      • I'm just trying to think how to ask this now.. I know some shops have classifieds but who knows how reliable they are

HiPages but depends on the area. Blue Mountains might be a bit too far out, I have found that in Gippsland, VIC.

Neighbours is a good place to start or coffee shop. Surely someone in the area has signage over a vehicle that would help spot someone.

You can't really tell if they're trustworthy on Hipages because they don't publish negative reviews, which makes the site pretty pointless in my opinion.

Might be worth checking something like google map reviews, generally a good indication i've found in my experience.

Potentially other people in similar industry, ie: asking a builder who they would recommend, as they tend to work hand in hand with each other sometimes and might know the good from the bad, the ones that are good honest and go the extra mile.

Typically people who have decades are experience normally bring a wealth of information as well, and I'd imagine that they wouldn't still be in the industry if they had a bad rep.

If your standard for 'good' is Amazon reviews, then… I just don't know what to say!

I'd ask family/friends/neighbours. Baring that, I'd go to the local Facebook group and ask around, but also ask anyone who recommended a name for a bit more detail on what was done.

  • Ask who your local council uses and then find someone else.

Do some phone or leg work. Feedback from local NFP orgs ( eg Progress associations,) who use sparkies .Some of those groups will have had individuals also using the same sparkie on seeing their work/prices.
Ditto for local small businesses in the area.

    • How do I go about this do I just send emails around asking what electricians they have been using in relation to a switchboard upgrade?

      • There should be a list of local groups in the free community newsletters around the area. Also often listed on local council website. Then talk to a committee member or even better a non official member- when you can track them down. Some sparkies might also have ads in the same local NLetter, you can ask around what their reputation is like. Do some googling on local sparkies as well, and read some reviews, see how long they have been in business in the area, and if they have a website with any reviews etc

  • Might worth asking mskeggs as they live in the area.

    • I'm secretly hoping he comes in and make his special appearance as I know he is a local

      Sounds like the coolest dude

  • Find someone highly rated on AirTasker. Either look them up using hints on their profile to avoid airtasker tax or hire them for something.

I worked with Frank many years ago - highly recommend, if you decide to contact him tell him Ray from ODG suggested you call him.
Best wishes for your switchboard upgrade

    • Cheers thanks I might give him a text tomorrow if my housemate hasn't found one yet
