Medium priced portable laptop (14" or lower)

Hi guys, been looking around lately for some kinda decent laptop to take to uni and to mess around on. I'm looking to spend $500-700 on it. Something like the HP Folio 13 deal would've been excellent if I hadn't missed out on it :(

Any suggestions? Main concerns are screen size/portability, as far as performance goes not being crappy is enough - i3 minimum i5 preferred and if it doesn't have an SSD I will buy one to pop in it.

Thanks guys

  • I got toshiba l840/02 for 555 at jb
    14" and 7670m
But if your not looking to play games on it you should porbably get an i5 instead

    • Mm I see that has expired on the JB site - DSE have the model down for $538. I might keep looking as the DSE one is a bit under the specs of what I wanted + I don't really like Toshiba much anyway.

      Thanks though!

  • use lenovo student website+wait for 10% weekend deal
    —> get a thinkpad edge E130 with core i5-3317u-intel HD 4000+4gb 1600 DDR3 ram+500gb 7200 rpm HDD
11" screen and weight is 1.6kg+ about 9 hours battery(spec from website but i dont believe it can last after 9 hours but 7 hours is reasonable) —> i think it's good for daily use on uni
the final price is $560 delivered

  • I know I'll probably be bashed for this, but if you don't mind second hand or apple products, look on ur uni listings. If your patients, students usually sell macbook pros for about $600-$700 while the airs go for about $700-$800. Good thing about this is you can meet them on campus.
