  • This wine is very good. Have tried it, but not quite this old. The basket press from 2015-2017 I tried was very good indeed

    • +1

Can agree - I love me some Rockford wine. Drank some '13/'14 vintages of Shiraz and the Rifle Range recently. Bloody good drop.
That said, I bought them when they were young… I cannot imagine buying wine for $250 a bottle…

      • How much were they when they were young?

        • Something like $30.

They are something like $80 now. Can be more precise if needed, but.

      • Agree with this. I have a bunch of BP and RR, and I really enjoy them but I am sitting on them for many years.

I'd love to buy some 2002, but daaaaaamn at $250 thats alot of money

    • I visited the winery this year in March! It's gorgeous and the wine is stellar…

Could only imagine how good a 20 year old Basket press would be…drooool

  • What happens if the wine is corked?

    • +2

Run through a large glass window

    • Call Rockford up and see if they'll sort it out. They know their corks aren't the best…

      • If the wine is corked, the bottle has a cork in the spout. I'm a some-mole-der.

What is the answer you are looking for?

      You open another bottle.

  • Nice discount on the half dozen.

I had a quick look through at wines that are more uhhhh reasonable and I'd argue that the BP aren't a bargain

What are better deals (to me) would be the
2018 Chateau Tanunda 100yr old vines Shiraz $390/6
1998 Seppelt St Peters Shiraz $540/6
1999 Clarendon Hills Clarendon Shiraz $540/6
1998 Kaesler Old Vine Shiraz $510/6

Bear in mind that some of these may actually be past their prime and would best be drunk very soon

    • +2

I've bought a half doz of the Chateau Tanunda 100yr old vines Shiraz

It's actually a very good wine from a well known, established winery. It'll sit in the wine fridge for a while though, but at $65 for a good wine I'm happy

I'm honestly a bit concerned that some of these may really be past their prime, but the price isn't too bad. I don't have firsthand experience with many of these wines to know though, but I'm personally not willing to take the risk. I do have firsthand experience with Rockford BP and I'm sure it would be amazing at that age, but I'm not going to pay 250 per bottle!

  • Does "marketing" tag imply ozbargain is now taking paid listings?

  • Just bought a 2014 BP today.
    That's a very good price

"Skye Cellars is selling this wine on someone else's behalf hence no returns available."

Skye Cellars is selling this wine. Neg because I am not sure how you can get around your consumer law obligations.

  • The aftermarket price of Basket Press is sky high, presumably due to the small production and limited allocations. Credit to Rockford for not increasing their prices at cellar door to match.
