LG's current flagship Android phone, competing alongside the Galaxy S3 and the HTC One X. I think this is a great price for a quad-core phone, significantly cheaper than either of its competitors.

LG's phones have been poor in recent times, but generally speaking, reviews say this phone is much improved compared to previous LG offerings, falling only slightly short of the Galaxy S3 and One X. Full specs: http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_optimus_4x_hd_p880-4563.php

  • this phone won Cnet's editor's choice award, top 5 phone you can buy and the best phone without the carrier's contract

Great specs - LOVE THE microSD slot - have you noticed more and more phones of late are losing them???

    Also

    http://www.becextech.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?product…

Unsure if they are this site is legit - would need to investigate - but may be cheaper??

I have a LG Optimus Black P970 - good phone, but LG's support for new android OSs is shocking - don't expect this phone to get updated…

    • Becextech usually have a $50+ shipping cost.

Definitely appreciate the slot - it's for this reason alone I won't buy a Galaxy Nexus. Seriously hoping the nextus Nexus has one!

Great specs but software updates are non-existent.

  • Not bad, was looking forward to the note 2 but that was a complete let down. This thing is about half the price too.

  • Galaxy Nexus from Kogan is also a good option as its pure Android. About $70 cheaper. If you don't heavily game on your phone, you really don't need tegra3 or similar.

couldn't you have combined the 2 posts?

    combine the posts,

    • Valid point… Not good enough reason for neg though…

  • How is this phone "falling short" compared to SGS3 and HTC One X?

    • +5

LG build quality is shithouse and they suck at providing updates (if ever)

  • +4

Because LG is crap and never updates their software.

    • +2

So true. We tried LG phones once at work…never again!

    • +4

True, thanks to LG's crappy software on the 2X my wife hates android and wants an iPhone :(

  • Good phone, nearly the same display size as SIII and better battery life. The Galaxy Nexus on the same site is $368 delivered (excld any coupon) , $10 lower than Kogan ($378).

  • Anyone purchased from the site before? Any customer feedback on eGlobal?

    • I bought a Galaxy Nexus, generally good however the website image and description did not say it would be branded with 'docomo' and the bands that where supported where inaccurate, so the product they delivered will be somewhat what you ordered lol

      • did they provide any genuine tax invoice? got a trip coming up so might take advantage of the TRS…
        thanks in advance..

I would avoid any phone with an Nvidia chipset …. nvidia drivers are not opensource so devs have a nightmare building roms. This means you are at the mercy of LG to release updates which they do not do !!

My LG p990 is still stuck on gingerbread because there is no acceleration driver for this phone

  • I've got an LG L7 (P705?), it's a relatively low end phone (I chose it because of battery life). It has by far the best stock rom I have ever used (its basically just themed ICS), the screen quality is amazing, it ridiculously thin and I've already had 2 updates for it. If their basic model is good, I can only imagine their high end stuff will be epic.

    Previous phones;
HTC Desire - lame battery life, desperately needed custom rom
HTC Sensation - fat, heavy, stupid battery cover fills phone and screen with dust, absolutely terrible battery life, also desperately needed custom rom, and this was/is a high end phone

I would never have even considered LG before (for the reasons stated above), now they are probably number one on my list (HTC are last, never again).

(just thought I'd try and balance the scales of for/against LG)

  • Do yourself a favour, just pay $100 more and get a Galaxy S3, because in a year time you will hate LG, the world and yourself when Android updates are not released for LG phones based on nVidia Tegra hardware. This happened to me with LG Optimus 2X (aka LG P-990), I'm still waiting for Ice Cream (Android 4.0) update!

    Avoid LG at any cost!

Thanks for your compassionate outburst of emotions… or was it cynicism?

I check xda-developers every couple of weeks, and there are ICS custom ROMs for Optimus 2x based on stock ICS source code or cyanogen builds, catch is that none of those ROMs have hardware acceleration for video, sound and camera is not working as far as I know - so no build that can truly use the ICS features as well as phone features.

        • Pure compassion buddy.

Yea, it is like that with my previous phone, which I till keep up wot the updates, these features do get developed overtime if the community feels the need to, and the manufacturer neglects their hardware. Is there a website dedicated to LG dev? That would be the second place I would regular if I were to purchase one of their devices.

    • In spite of the fact that EGlobal is amongst the dodgiest dealers out there, negging the deal because you don't like the phone is wrong.

Make sure to pay with paypal if you deal with these people.

      • +2

I didn't say I don't like the phone, I was saying that given LG's track record people are better paying about $4.16 per month extra (assuming phone life of 2 years) and going with Samsung Galaxy S3 and save their time and nerves in the future.

Or to put it differently if polished turd on a stick is $100 cheaper than something that is not, would you still try to save a $100?

  • I can vouch for LG's build quality too. I got my girlfriend an LG Optimus 7 (windows phone) when it was $16x earlier this year. It isn't a high end phone by any means but it's built very nice and feels very expensive and not plasticy at all.

  • AnandTech just published an excellent review of the phone for what it's worth.

      • It has good reviews on a few sites but build quality doesn't seem that great and LG have a bad rep when it comes to software updates. Also LG smartphones seem bland imo.

        • No arguments there! That ^^^ is seriously cheaper than the "competition" though… (quote marks indicate I do not consider them to really compete)
