NSW Electricity Provider - Which One to Choose ?

Hi

I'm moving to Sydney from Perth and currently looking for an Electricity Provider for the apartment. Not sure which one to choose and what's with all the types of plans available.

Any help would be appreciated. I will be renting an apartment in Cremorne.

Thank You

www.energymadeeasy.gov.au is the go to for east coast utility provider with estimated cost

    • +1 - wow the number of times folks post up saying,"Hey tell me who I should use." when even the most basic check would show them firstly that nobody will know (as more info needed) - and they can find from a govt site in much less time than asking others. You'd not think it was that hard.

some apartments have embedded networks with no choice of choosing energy suppliers/rates/plans.

I'm in one right now and it's damn expensive and very annoying! It should be illegal as residents don't have a choice!

as residents don't have a choice!

        of course they do.

No we don't. Do you understand how embedded networks work in unit blocks?

Also, residents can choose to venture out the embedded network but it will cost alot more to supply electricity and/or gas to the unit and thousands to just change hardware in the building if strata accepts it as in most instances the provider installs their own infrastructure to the site, making it costly and pretty much impossible to get out of an embedded network.

            No we don't.

            You can choose to move.

              @jv:

              You can choose to move

Strange you don't make the same choice with your Dan Andrews obsession……

        was with AGL previously
        NSW

        • ok, thanks, not sure if they have single tariffs or only TOU (we don't have a smart meter, nor do we want one, as we are home during the day and use most energy then)

          • @souths123: wow not many i know dont have smart meter. can you get it upgraded first?

            • @CyberMurning: we can get one if we want one (costs money to change to a smart meter) but if we did that, not sure if they would then change our plan to TOU….like I said, for us that would be a bad thing as we use most energy during the day. I would get solar, but husband is against it as he has seen what happens when things go wrong….fires, leaking roofs etc, so he is against it. (he is a firey) It would cost a fair chunk to get a good one with very good inverter etc, with a reputable installer, but it would save us a lot in the long run…..unfortunately I am stuck without it. Obv he has seen what happens when you get a cheap system and have cowboy installers and that is colouring his view.

              • @souths123: yeah agree with the danger .. hmm why i didnt think of that lol..
yeah with long term saving but very long so some people think ah it is just paying in advance at the end its the same amount of money

  • Put your electricity usage details into https://wattever.com.au/ to get a good comparison
