Sure, but since a massive part of the shelf price is the alcohol tax they're clearly making a fat profit..
That would be true, but the stuff tastes awful and must sell in abysmally small amounts.
Anecdotally, it must be difficult to sell non-alcoholic spirits especially if they aren't dirt cheap. I went into Coles and was about to buy what i thought was full strength spirits on special but alas the attendant with their keen eye said "just letting you know that its non-alcoholic". It went straight back to the shelf, which was full to the brim. Store attendant must be sick of people returning their spirits that they mistakenly thought was alcoholic and just thought that they would just save us all the trouble with a quick warning before sale lol
The problem is they try to charge similar prices to alcoholic variants.
I asked the internet a while back why non-alcoholic drinks are so expensive at the supermarket… And the result surprised me: It's made the normal alcohol-included way, but the final step is to extract the alcohol in the final process.
