4 Nights and 5 Days Trip to Christchurch

First time trip to Christchurch NZ.
I have zero idea about Christchurch except that there is a bungee jump in Queenstown but I believe there would be heaps of other activities to do around the town.

I have booked air tickets (family of 3) for 4 nights 5 days using QFF points. What do you think are most recommended things to do in Queenstown/Christchurch?
BTW this trip is planned for April next year during school holidays.

    Queenstown. Just no.

NZ has some of the most beautiful countryside in the world. Go see that instead.

      Queenstown is awesome actually

Don't listen to Oscar the grouch here

    • You need to rewrite your sentence, most beautiful part of the NZ is way to Queenstown. Flying into Queenstown is also good.
And Queenstown has full of activities.

    • I tend to agree a lil, only due to spending 2 weeks driving through over half of the beautiful country

Queenstown was very touristy. Still beautiful, but good luck hearing a kiwi accent

And Christchurch? We stopped for lunch and I couldn't wait to drive back out

  • type in google christchurch things to do, its a great spot

    • Chatgpt can create itinerary for you

  • Russell Crowe

Christchurch was kinda boring imo. Queenstown and drive in between was beautiful.

  • Ok, I shortlisted three things to do during the trip
    1. Milford Sound day trip
    2. Bunny jump
    3. Paddle board in lake Pukaki

Anything else I need to swap or add?

It’s 6 hour drive from the Christchurch airport to Queenstown so it’s eating a lot of hours on road.

    • Go through Franz Josef or fox glacier.

    Akaroa is lovely

Hanmer Springs thermal pools are near Christchurch, worth a look.

  • Second vote for Akaroa, can't remember much else about my time in Christchurch but remember it being a bit boring.

  • Christchurch tram restaurant was a great date night with the wifey last time I was there.

    Hanmer springs are also awesome.

  • Milford sound

  • Queenstown, skyline, ice bars, fergburger
    Wanaka, any of the restaurants
    Twisel, salmon farm
Akaroa, Hektor dolphins tour and gin tasting

  • Punting on the River Avon.
And there is a lovely river flowing through Mona Vale Gardens - a beautiful and relaxing spot

  • Since it hasn't been mentioned - Lake Tekapo

Do yourself a favour and spend 2 nights there. Gorgeous lil town, great views and great night skies

Hmm except 4 night in Christchurch might make that difficult. Still, I'd get off the plane in Christchurch then head straight out of town

    • yeah I meant Lake Tekapo (not Pukaki) is part of the itinerary and have booked for one night at Lake Edge Holiday Park for the view.

  • Milford sound drive is super. get there early and go for 3-4 cruise.

    • I took it out of the itinerary as it’s too far from the Queenstown (3 hrs one way). Is it really worth? Then I may reconsider.

      • I had a spare day so I stayed night at Te Anau and early morning trip to Mileford sound and get back at Te anau by 5-6pm.
If you have a budget you can fly from Queenstown to Mileford sound - not sure if that is a worth the cost.
