[VIC, SA, QLD] Derrimut 12-Month Gym Membership $213 Upfront + $79 Admin Fee @ Derrimut 24:7 Gym

670

Despite the increased "Admin Fee", this is a pretty decent deal if you use it well.

My local is pleasant and a 5-minute walk from my home. The homepage banner that caught my attention disappeared after a split second, but I noticed something about a 13th Birthday deal.

Deal ends: 31 Jul 2023

Not a bad deal! My local is a pleasant 9 hour walk away lol, wish I still lived in Sunnybank.

    • +1

Yeah, sad they only have 1 in Queensland

    • The macgregor one isn’t even 24/7. Odd as it’s in the name.

  • +5

I lived five minutes walk from a 24 hour gym. I used it every night, until some personal crisis or stress comes along and then I CBF anymore. I should have stuck with it though :(

    • +19

hardest part is going there mate

      • Now I live many km away from the nearest 24 hour gym. I should probably just eat better, make my arms bigger, squats, and maybe take up jogging or something. I feel like having big arms and butt is basically big boobs for men.

      • -2

They can't make a profit if every member turns up often enough

        • They benefit if every member is a regular. Most people who run gyms are also passionate about fitness and not that cynical.

      • and worst part is having to pay (or know you have paid for a benefit you are not using), and knowing that if you cancel you membership you wont get refund/have to pay extra $$ for leaving

  • +30

For that price, it's a good deal for homeless people to shower, use the toilets and stay sexy even while on the street.

    • +2

Uni students now only need a closet to sleep in

    • +1

Except for the one in Braybrook where the one water station looks directly into the men's changing room. Better be wrapped up tight before stepping out of the shower to avoid some embarrassment

  • +9

Lol the stupid admin fee keeps going up, up to their old dirty tricks

    • +2

Still cheaper than their previous deals.

      • +2

It's basically the same, it was $199 + $49 admin fee

        • Like 2 years ago?

    • +10

Waiting for the $0 for the one year with $300 admin fee

  • +1

Last year, they kept dropping it from May to September!

You see alot of complaints, staff lie! Oh yeah $350 is the cheapest, 3 days later $300 and it goes down to $199 but now they've jacked the admin fee which for a current member is BS.

My membership runs out soon, so I'll probably have to renew but I may keep waiting lol

    • Yeah, but 199+49 was still the cheapest it got right? I doubt we’ll see that again? But even if we do you’ve only lost out on $50 over the course of an entire year.

    • +1

The cheapest gym in my area by far is $150 every 3 months. They haven't updated their equipment except for treadmills in 20 years.

    • Ive been going to derrimut since their first gym,
Rule of thumb, bare minimum… they always have an EOFY sale, and Xmas/New yrs sale..
So if you get it around that time, then your guaranteed to get it on sale every year.

  • +1

my local is filled to the brim with people at peak hour and no machine anywhere, sucks that this deal is only for non-members

    • +1

Is it non-members? They normally do both these days.

Yeah, my local one has no parking even during the day! They got some big ass gyms, but now Ryderwear is opening a lot of gyms around here.

I actually complained, that the hand wash is always run out and it's annoying! They got all these cleaners, but no hand wash in the men's toilet!

      • t&c's says new and expired members only

      • Sounds like Thomo…

        • Have been thinking about joining this - but i just hear 'everybody' goes there - not sure I want to be waiting to use machines

          • @m0tyrider: I have (sadly) been a member for 4+ years, the price gets me every time, and the size of the Gym is good. Lots of machines and varying machines you can get everything and anything done. However, that is if it's not full of people when you're there.

It is true, you do very much wait for machines these days, especially with the sudden influx of youngins that think it's cool to go to a Gym, and for other wrong reasons..
What makes it harder is that 90% of the demographic that go here don't have any etiquette, and hog the machine while talking to their mates, so you can't even really line up half the time.

Once my year expires again I'll be looking elsewhere… not sure where that's close to me… but I can't recommend it anymore and that's not even getting into cleanliness etc.

            • @chickendog: Better youngins than vainglorious old men

              • @CommuterPolluter: Yeah look, not sure I agree. The place has both and I still think I'd take the latter, but maybe that's cause I'm an old man in a young persons body.

    • -3

@unfinishedsentenc : can I use your swipe to get in Qld

    • there's a reminder that you have to drop in to activate it within seven days or else they forfeit it

  • used to be $49 admin. one day its gonna go up to $100

    • +3

$1 a month however $280 for admin fee.

  • No love for current member. Can't top up as per t&c

  • How good is that.

Meanwhile, I pay $933 a year for my Anytime Fitness membership :(

    • +1

high barrier for entry might be a good thing, my local is filled with inconsiderate people bc it's so cheap anyone can pay it, paying a bit more (probably not 900 a year though) for a better experience is probably worth it

      • +6

Right on. I would pay extra for a gym with less people at peak hour. No point paying a cheap price if your 45 min workout is going to take 1.5 hours because of waiting around for other people to finish using the equipment

        • +2

My gym is tiny and it is a zoo during peak hours. Gyms should have a cap on how many members they can take on but that's never going to happen.

    • I'm an anytime fitness member and I pay $560 a year

      • +1

That is a good offer, how long hv U been with them to get that price @melbstheburn

        • About 4-5 years

          • @melbstheburn: Can I join as friends & family with you bro but in QLD

            • @rehan770: Can you do that? Wouldn’t your billing gym just roll over to your local Qld gym anyway? That’s how my AF contract was written. My fee is 460 pa hehe.

    • Damn thats expensive for AF. I'm paying 75$/m for fitness first platinum.

      • im on half that for ff plat.

derrimut is a much better gym than ff… their big gyms are so much better in terms of equipment.

some ff might have things like pools and sauna, but i have no interest in that.

        • I wasn't comparing FF to Derrimut though- rather AF which is considered quite basic in terms of weightlifting machines, squat cages and free-weights, and instead focusing on pin-loaded machines. I wouldn't mind going to Derrimut but none near the city area. Also if you're paying $37/month for FF platinum that is a steal. More than the 40% friends and family deal that I am on - how did you get such a contract?

          • @sim777: Every now and then during end of year.. they do 50% off .. then you just get kept on the same deal going forward

Also agree on AF … Also not that great … In terms of equipment… I've never been to a better gym then derrimuts.

  • +2

    Ozbargain get ripped together.

  • Too many influencers ITT

  • +1

I can't find the terms and conditions - what happens after 12 months? It just expires?

    • Yes, expires.

      • Thank you kindly 🙏

  • Can you add 12 months to your existing membership, using this deal? I recall being able to do this last time.

    • +1

I asked the other night and they said it's only for new members not an "overlap" promotion.

  • +2

BEFORE YOU JOIN ANY GYM ask for the cancellation fee and procedure BEFORE YOU JOIN.
Trust me bro, you dont wanna give a month of free donation to them when you want to leave the gym due to various reasons (primarily being DONT HAVE ENOUGH TIME)
I aint saying this particular gym has cancellation fee, but just confirm about it first before joining.
The joining discounts are okay BUT NOT AT COST OF putting them at CANCELLATION COST (especially sneaky hidden cancellation costs)

    • This has no lock in contract so only if they charge for early termination fee. Still I will confirm if I join.

By the way, how is their Infrared Sauna?

  • Has anyone tried using the $100 voucher Snap fitness from Entertainment Book? If that would be cheaper

  • +1

    Great deal.

Feels like the meta for gym subs has shifted substantially lately to ye olde oversubscribe and pray they don't come all at once.

If you're a peak hour visitor, I'd probably tread carefully.

    • If you're a peak hour visitor, I'd probably tread carefully.

this is the key i hit up the gym during lunch break between 12-1pm generally pretty dead

I havent been during the 4pm rush but id imagine it wouldnt be ideal if you're trying to do a 'quick' session

  • +1

Anyone know can they top up to exist member?

    • A lot of gyms will just let you quit and rejoin.

.. Although that is obviously dependent on not being a paid in advance member

      • Give them a few weeks once the newbies dry up, the offer will be extended for existing members.

  • -4

Cheap membership because it’s in all the shithole areas of VIC, not sure about other states.

    • Literally nothing wrong with airport west, Caroline Springs, Corio, Frankston etc

In modern Melbourne if you own a house within the Melbourne Green line you're probably doing 'ok'

  • -2

And you too can hang out with Bike Members

  • +3

I stand by the -admin fee is shady business but even with it the membership is less then $1 a day.

The Caroline Springs Campus is probably one of the best gyms in the country (IMO)

Well worth the price of a membership

  • Been thinking about joining Derrimut. Could someone kindly give me a rundown on the good and bad with these sort of gyms?

    • +1

      Good- Cheap
      Bad - Crowded

      • +1

Bad - Too many juice heads
        - People don't put their weights back
        - Loud music

        • Thank you for the feedback guys. I guess it makes sense since it’s so affordable. I’m currently with Doherty and everyone makes the effort to put the weights back. I remember seeing someone walk away and another bloke kindly asked him to re-rack the weights.

  • +1

They need to open one up in the east or closer to the city and really shake things up

  • Quality equipment. Bit crowded during peak times as expected.

    It gets the job done.
