[VIC] $150 Credit for The First Bill with Home Select PLUS Gas Plan @ Tango Energy

850

This deal has been around for a couple of months, and has been mentioned here before in comments but nobody has posted it yet so I thought I may as well. It's twice what you generally get from most utilities for signing up, and doesn't have the inflated rates of places like AGL.

$150 credit. Applied to the first bill. Rates are reasonable too for low-moderate users. Around 3c/mj + $1.10per day in my area

Only for Victorians

Also worth mentioning that you can lock in rates for 12 months

    • Yeah.. but is that a good idea now? Rates seem to be inflating over winter, but then dropping back in summer.

In any case, like many people I'm looking to ditch gas. It was worth it in the past when they couldn't export it, but as soon as they worked out how to send it overseas prices jumped.

    • -1

Rate lock means crap all. The small print says your rate won't changed for 12 months unless supplier increases the rate. So when the market price increases so will tango.

      • +7

This is incorrect. The costs are fixed until 31 May 2024 "provided the network tariff code doesn't change". The network tariff code does not mean your rates. Broadly speaking, the network tariff code is a way of distinguishing between different bases of charging. The most obvious distinction is between single rate and time of use tariffs. Unless you are transferred from one tariff to a different tariff, they are bound not to vary your rates.

        • -1

What's to stop them transferring you to a different network tariff code then?

          • @reactor-au: The Energy and Water Ombudsman

            • @john_conner: Ok so from what I could find, the network tarrif charge is 1) bundled into your rates as a home consumer, 2) the network tarrif code is fixed for 12 months (with some exceptions), 3) Network charges are reviewed on 1st July each year for all networks in all states in the National Electricity Market (NEM), including Victoria (who used to reset charges on 1st January each year).

      • I fixed my rates with Lumo in a deal they had a year ago before the rates skyrocketed. And I just got a notice to say that’s finishing and they kept their word. Unfortunately coming off 15/25c /kWh off peak/peak, 6.7 FIT and $1/day to basically double that. Going to churn fo sho.

        • I had exactly the same deal. Just churned to OVO - about 20-30% more than I was getting with Lumo, but about as good as I could find anywhere. Plus 12 months rate lock and a $100 credit to the account. Plus $250 for using the Vic energy compare website.

    • Yeah had rates increase twice in quick succession when I decided to stick with my current provider. Big mistake.

  • +7

    Just had a quick comparasion:
    Tango: 2.97c+110c daily
My Globird plan after price increase on 1Aug: 2.99c+71.5c daily

end up for 28 days, Globird is $58.15 for me but Tango is $68.68.
plus, their $150 credit plan's rate is higher than their lowest rate plan.

    • No contract with 150$ credit , change back to Globird 2 month later

      • +2

I believe my Globird rate is for existing customers only
their new customer rate is 3.54c+70.4c daily

        • How did you managed to get that rate for Globird. I just did a quote for gas on Globird and they gave me 96.03c daily and 3.05c per MJ.

    • +1

That is weird… I'm in Vic, currently with globird. Globird is doing 35c+90c daily while tango is at 22c+60c.

      • We are talking about gas rates.
Looks like yours are electricity rate?
For electricity, there is no way you will get 60c daily after Aug 1. My guess is Tango has not updated their rates in your area yet.

    • Remember globird did a credit check when i switched in may this year. Was with momentum and Qenergy but they never did a credit check. Thanks

    • You can call Globird for better rates than what was originally quoted on the Pricing Review email.

Just signed up to this! Hope there is nothing preventing me from changing to their cheaper plan after the first bill with my $150 credit!

    • You can. I did this with their electricity plan. Got the $150 credit after 3 months and then and switched to the cheaper plan.

  • Signed up for this a little while ago, swapped out once 150 bill came

    • Is the billing cycle monthly ?

      • Bills were coming in every 2 months for me (gas) Electricity was monthly.

  • +2

Does the remaining credit roll-over if your first bill is under $150?

    • Don’t think so. The breakdown of the offer suggests any unused portion is forfeit (although good luck keeping your bill to under $150 with gas during winter).

      • I couldn't find the details on this on their offer page, only that it's a credit on the first bill.

Surely any left over would roll over?

      • Mine is just a family of 3 with only gas appliances: stove, oven, and hot water storage. My bills never go over $150 for a 2-month bill cycle, although that might with my rates changing on 1 August.

    • Yes it does, I signed up with them about 3 monthsd ago and called to confirm just this as the premises it was signed up to was low gas usage. Was advised its a rolling credit until used.

  • Do they charge meter reading fee ?

    • There's no meter reading fee in Vic

  • +3

Just be aware, gas rates are higher vs the low rates bundle without the $150 bonus.

    https://ibb.co/9txxVSj

  • Is this new customers only or existing?

  • +1

If I change from another provider to this in my current home - are there reconnection fees?

    • +3

To my knowledge you can change gas & electricity providers as often as you like without penalty

    • +3

"Disconnection" and "reconnection" fees are only applicable where, as the names suggest, you request that the distributor cut off or restore your supply respectively. Merely switching between retailers doesn't disconnect you from the supply at any stage, and won't attract a fee.

    • Why aren’t more ppl doing this? Like nbn

      • Churning? They are :)

        • So just checking, you won't have any downtime with your gas and electricity by switching providers? and there's no one to come read your meter like if you were to move in or out of a property?

      • I do it almost every billing cycle.

  • Good deal to sign up, however, need to remember to switch away.

  • +1

rip people in apartments stuck with embedded providers who can't take advantage of deals like this.
Honestly wish they'd get replaced in existing buildings now that embedded networks are banned for new installations in VIC

  • First timer in this - do you guys get charged for disconnection fees from existing provider?

    • +3

      No disconnect charge

    • -3

      Yes disconnects/reconnects get charged

      • Going from Globird to Tango is $12 on each bill?

    • +1

There is no disconnection required when changing providers.

  • Is there a similar deal for just electricity, no gas?

    • +1

Ovo Energy is currently offering locked in rates til 1st Aug 2024, no bill credit but you can sign up via econnex on CashRewards and earn $70 cash back.

  • I was a customer with Tango till around March 2023 before switching to Globird for my gas. Would I be considered a new customer if I took up this plan?

    • I believe so as you can't even login to their system, so you will be treated as a new customer.

  • was looking at Tango recently, but the recent reviews for them seemed like they might have challenges with customer service? Anyone got any good experiences?

    • Been with them for over a year. No problems.

  • time to move from Sumo

  • +1

Do people tend to switch for credits and then potentially switch back after ala NBN plans?

    • +1

yes - and keep an eye open for the Econnex offers, worth around $200 to switch

  • Signed up! Thanks

  • Comparing Tango eSelect (no bonus offered) 01/05/2023 - 05/06/2023 - 36 Days - my current Energy Aus. rates (VIC S.E.) still $6.52 cheaper for 36 days but not a bad rate! Tango Electricity is not even close though.

  • anyone tried covau? best rates in my area - eastern suburb melb?

    • Can't PM you so replying to your comment- did you end up going with CovaU? Tango has jacked prices so looking to churn away (yes I rang Tango and they couldn't offer me anything better, for the first time in few years!)

  • Has the 'Home Select PLUS' gas plan been removed a.k.a Ozbargained?

All I see now is just the 'Home Select' plan?

    • same, cant find it anymore, was planning to switch over today :[

  • Just confirmed via online chat… 'Home Select PLUS' ended yesterday.

    • It was still there this morning and I signed up for it. Got the welcome pack pdf from them saying I'm on this plan. Wondering if they'd honour the $ bonus.

      • I'm sure if you were able to sign up for it and your welcome pack states 'Home Select PLUS' then you'll be fine

  • Just signed up with Alinta cheapest for Bentleigh I found with the energy compare vic….$75 credit first month……

    • thanks, just checked, electricity bill would go +$58 and gas +$28 for me from my existing service ;/

      • did you use the compare vic? what suburb? Alinta 71.80c per day peak is 4.05 first 50 mj then 3.59 next 50 then 2.80 peak off peak is cheaper again

  • +1

I just signed up for $150 credit by mentioning that it was available in teh morning & I was put on hold, signed up prety smoothly

    • Was that online or over the phone?

  • Signed up yesterday, received WP pretty quickly but no mention of $150 credit anywhere. Called this morning and they said they'd need to investigate

    • Did they get back to you ?

  • I'm sure I read the offer was available until 31st July 2023. Too late missed out now.

    • I never saw any dates for ending, so i think its just another case of ozbargainers swarming a deal until it gets pulled

  • Just signed up - thanks OP.
Can confirm that the offer is still available today only - but only by phone. Expect to be on the phone for a little over an hour.

  • Thanks OP. Just signed up using online chat with the offer for today only.

    • cheers, i guess their chat is super busy, waiting for 20mins and not even seen my message

  • I haggled with Energy Australia & could manage to get $100 one time credit on Gas+Elec and 26% discount on my new Flexi plan rates…
    Gas (Supply - 0.846 / Usage 0.290) Elec (Supply - 1.015 / Usage 0.031) after discounts.

    • Did you got this $100 credit on both Gas & Electricity over the chat or the phone? Please let me know.

      • $100 is the Total credit.. so $50 each

  • The Tango website is still advertising the $150 rebate on Gas plans. You could point the customer support person to this if the offer has officially ended.

  • I got an online quote from CovaU yesterday. Their rate for my area is the cheapest. They called me back later to sign me up but I told them I was waiting on other quotes. Today I received an email offering a $100 credit off my first bill.

Edit: I think it might only be $50. The $100 applies to switching both gas and electricity.

  • ffs didn't have time to do this ystd and it's over

    • It's still advertised on their home page. Call or live chat as ask for it.

      • I can't see it now.

        • It has gone now unfortunately.

  • I've signed up to the $150 when this post created and I received the Welcome pack. However, I only receiving the disconnection confirmation from my current provider. Anyone in the same boat? Since the offer already ended, am I still eligible for the $150 discount? I don't see the $150 mentioned in the welcome pack.

    • Was it mentioned in the offer they sent you when signing up?

      • During the signup yes, but I don’t see it mentioned any where in those welcome pack documents

        • Worst case you can contact them and they hopefully add the credit manually then

  • Got a rate increase letter from Tango, nearly 50% increase.

  • +1

Received my first bill but no $150 credit. Anyone else had the same problem?

    • +1

Yep same here. Calling CS and will see what they say.

      • +4

I contacted them on live chat. They said they’d apply it to the next bill. I got a screen shot when I first signed up to the deal so I’m not too worried as long as it gets applied soon.

    • Yes, I received my first bill and no $150 credit. Confirmed my welcome pack states that I've signed up to "Home Select Plus" so I'll be contacting them tomorrow. So frustrating when you have to chase. Unfortunately I didn't have the foresight to screen shot the promo when it was advertised on their website (assuming they won't be so petty)..
