Micro SD Card, Faster Speeds on a Budget?

Looking to get a cheapish solution that will be much faster than my Patriot LX series card. I use it to get video off my action camera and it is very slow, transferring the video to my laptop is painful.

Samsung EVO plus and a USB 3 micro sd adapter. If you're not already using a USB 3 micro sd adapter, try one with the Patriot LX.

    • I was only using a cheap adapter I've had laying around for a few years, not sure it is USB 3 or not. Is there a way to check?

      • Look inside the the plug and see if it's got just 4 pins (USB 2) or the second row of 5 pins behind (USB 3)

      • If the plastic at the USB end is blue, then it's USB 3.

      • adapters basically determine your transfer speeds, if you are using a crap cheap one, that will explain why its so slow.
even if it usb3 it may not transfer at those speeds.

I had an old logitech adapter that was usb 3 that was super slow, i upgraded to a new https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/lexar-multi-card-2-in-1-u…

        and the transfer speeds tripled.

    • Just checked and It's USB 2. I'm going to buy a USB 3 adapter and see if that makes a difference. Do the cheapest ones work ok? This for example https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/334936453678

Don't get that one, it says usb2.0 throughout the whole description and is shipped from China, so it will arrive in a month's time if ever.

I have a ugreen one similiar to this, under $10.

Your laptop will also need to have USB 3.0 port to take advantage of the higher speed.

  • Interesting I was always under the impression sd adapters were literally just copper tabs , no electronic so transfer speeds were determined from the micro sd itself and the reader speed.

You are right in the case of SD to microSD adapters. There's no electronics in them, just copper. But I think what is being referred to here is a microSD to USB adapters. They definitely contain electronics.

      • Ah yeah definitely want usb 3. I shelled out for the premium sandisk one years ago, no regrets.
