Electricity Price Negotiations - Any Success?

With the recent increase in electricity prices, has anyone successfully negotiated a better price for the likes of PowerShop?

I'm not meaning being shifted to a different publicly available plan - but the same plan with a lower daily fee (currently 103.45c) , or rate (currently 36.95c/kwh). I have solar (12c) - Sydney Ausgrid area.

I'm have considered moving to TOU and gamble on the high peak rates.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

  • I was called up by my last retailer who every year offer me better and better discount until i said yes. So kinda like negotiation but initiated by them not me.

  • 36.95c/kwh?? Literally just moved to Ovo last night for 21.78 flat rate.

Are you sure you're not on a demand rate. On demand you get ok rates but they got you with the demand - looking at your biggest spike in kw for the month, multiplying by the rate like 25c - then applying that to every day of the month on top of usage and daily fee.

What is the plan, and state? Feed in and daily fee?

      • Yes. I only used 10kwh peak hour for whole month but got charged 40 dollars total for peak plus demand charges. That crazy

  • I just switched to another retailer last month. Great success.

  • For about 10 years, I would often call my retailer (Lumo) with the best competitor rates I could find, threaten to leave, and they'd either match, or go close. But a few years ago Alinta knocked on the door, Lumo said they couldn't get close, so i switched, and Alinta's consistenty been top 3 in terms of value in my area ever since. Will have to re-check after August though.

    • Alinta FIT is just 6.7

I changed to GloBird Energy (locked prices for 6 months), and swapped to a heat pump hot water tank for $33 (coupled with a smart switch and solar)…. and now I'm paying even less than what I was before. Life is good.

i had same thing with power shop. rate increased by 30% and feed in decreased by $0.01 to $0.12.
try to find a better deal with better solar feed in but could find it.

  • I spoke with powershop and they wouldn't budge a cent.

    • are you pulling my leg? how did you get that so cheap???

      • I just used the Origin offer that was posted here recently.

Rate is changing on 1-Aug though.

Supply to 85.298 cents per day
Usage to 21.298 cents per day

        • can i still sign up? or the deal has expired?

        • Jaysus, mine at NSW 2151 is:

          Supply Charge
          Daily Supply
          89.78 ¢/day
          Usage Charges
          General Usage
          37.30 ¢/kWh

          • @rave75: Time to move….

            • @jv: can't.. Parent's own it, will still own it until the next generation. I was with energy australia paying 30c then they increased to 40c from August. I moved to ovo with 29c (variable rate too) but I sense there will be problems with cust service down the line, I couldn't even call them in the past 3 days.

              • @rave75:

I couldn't even call them in the past 3 days.

Isn't it a public holiday in the Philippines?

                • @jv: well, public holiday typically doesn't effect developing countries' workers
