Shark FlexStyle Air Styling & Drying System $399 Delivered (RRP $499) @ David Jones

70

Lowest price i've seen since this was released in Australia.

Meant to be a great (somewhat cheaper) alternative to the Dyson Airwrap.

Just weighing up if it's too early to buy myself a Christmas present!

(Not sure where DJs got their $899 RRP from - usually $499)

I like the way you think!

  • Nice. Could stack with David Jones $10 ‘welcome’ on sign up if they’re still doing that. And $10 cash back with $100 spend using the 28 degrees card (not sure if that’s targeted? offer ends today though).

  • Does anyone know how this stacks up with the Dyson?

It depends on your hair type. The main advantage of flexstyler, apart from price, is the diffuser attachment. I wear my hair naturally curly ~70% of the time and blown out ~30%. To dry curly hair you’d need the diffuser, which the airwrap doesn’t have. Only the Supersonic has it, and you’d be shelling out over $1000 to get both Dyson products. The shark has tools to do both styles.

The main pros of the new airwrap over the flexstyler are 1. curl barrel direction can be adjusted (so you don’t have to switch barrels) 2. Bit less noisy 3. the amazing looking smoothing attachment

Another point of difference is the flexstyler round brush is quite large, which I think would be better for coarser hair needing more tension. It may not suit shorter hair, I’m not sure.

Both produce nice salon-style blowouts and smooth hair, a lot of it depends on technique and one’s hair type.

      • Thanks for this!

I'm pretty clueless and trying to figure it out. Thinking this could make a good present for the missus who has curly hair and does spend a bit of money on her products to maintain it.

Not sure if the airwrap is worth the extra, specially if I don't know if she will enjoy using this kind of device. I'm thinking get this now, and if she loves it, wait till this dies and then get the airwrap the next time around.

        • Yep, good call!! The airwrap would only be worth the expense if after washing she often straightens her hair and then kinda puts a curl or some extra oomph in it. If she has naturally curly hair and you see her mostly using a big bowl looking thing to dry her curls, she’d appreciate the Dyson Supersonic hairdryer or the FlexStyle. If she does both she’ll LOVE the flexstyle (and you even more for the pressie😂).

Got JB Hi-fi to pice match this and they also have a promotion - spend $300+ and get a $50 coupon to spend at a later date! Thanks for the post OP

  • I just had my order from David Jones cancelled noting they were 'unable to fulfill this order'. It's still available to order online so not sure if I hit a weird glitch or it's actually out of stock. Did a price match elsewhere rather than try again.
