Jetstar flight booking - wrong date

Is it possible that Jetstar's system screwed up my booking? I booked return flights when they had the SALE to Honolulu last month and just found out that my return date is 30th April instead of 30th March.
Can I ask them to change the date or give me refund if I claim that their system messed up my booking. I didn't get a copy of my itineary when I booked and I am not usually the type who make mistakes especially when booking for flights.
Does anyone have any advice what I should do :(
If I were to change the date I have to pay around $350(Fare difference PLUS fees). Reckon they'll have another SALE soon?

  • Didn't they send you an itinerary by email after you finished the booking?

    • Nope, I was sent a tax invoice but no itinerary.

      • That doesn't sound right. Sure it didn't end up in the spam folder?

        • I received an email right after booking and it says itinerary with the booking reference but somehow the part under the "flight details" is blank and attached was a tax invoice in PDF file. Strange…..
I thought maybe gmail blocked the "flight details" part so I then forwarded this email to my other emails such as yahoo, internode and even work's email but still can't see any of the flight details.
Not sure if I can use this as an excuse to get them to change my flight date without having to pay fees.

        • You should be able to retrieve the itinerary from their website using the reference code. Something is odd, I'd call them up if I were you.

        • Yeah, I did managed to retrieve from their website, that's how I found out the return date is 30th April, not 30th March. I am pretty sure I picked 30th March when booking for the flights. There's no way I can go on a holiday for 1.5 months(19th March-30th April), my boss is just gonna ask me to not bother coming back to work if I did.
I def need to change the return date but can't afford to pay almost 400 bucks for the date change *sigh

        • Incidentally the itinerary is usually attached as a PDF also and you should have been able to download it from your webmail folder. If not, maybe those are grounds for not knowing about the date.

        • There was only 1 pdf file in the email and it was the tax invoice showing amounts paid but not the the flight details.
Yup, I'll try to get them to change the dates on the grounds that their system screwed up my booking and the proof is the "blank" itinerary. The percentage of success is pretty low, but doesn't hurt to try I guess.

  • Call them up and see what they say. They may just fix it for you. If not, then you need to figure out what the next step is.

  • Jetstar changes their booking system.
Confirmation initiery email does not have initery pdf file attached but tax invoice instead.
Flight details is in email subject and content.

  • Firstly make a call. Explain the situation, given the time frame, they may just take pity on you. Might have to cancel the whole booking.

I would doubt its the system that has failed, but given you may have been experimenting with all the dates, eg 1st april, 30th March it might not have taken the month change when you adjusted the dates.

Then again dropping in the line that the server was slow when you were making the booking, and kicked you out a few times, might have added to the confusion while you were booking ;)

However not getting the itinerary with the email, makes it harder to know straight away that a mistake was made, which would have meant you could have called back right away to correct error then.

Also be nice and calm. Be aware that the staff member you talk to may not have the authority to do anything. If they say no, then my tack would be something like this.

"Sure I understand you cant do anything about it, thanks for trying, but can I please talk with a supervisor who may have the power to assist more than you are authorised to do"

Then make your case including the obvious cant stay away from work that long etc. If they cant help ask who you can go to to see if they can assist. Always keep calm, it works more often than not. Might work.. Good luck

    • Just spoke to the call centre and was told have to pay $600 for the fare difference, I almost passed out.
I spoke to the guy nicely as per your advice :)

No luck though, he insisted that there's no way he or even the supervisor can change the date for free. I told him about not getting itinerary therefore was not aware of the incorrect date. He then asked me to send a complaint email so they could investigate and get back to me.

Right after I hung up, I received an itinerary email with the flight details, is this them trying to cover their backside? hm…I am worried now.

      • Unfortunately without a flexible ticket, Jetstar is not going to help you. Once they have your money, they aren't going to give it back. See here: http://www.dontflyjetstar.com/

The best solution in your case would be to chalk it up to bad luck and wait for another sale, or see if you or your family/friends have enough Qantas or other FFP miles to take a one way trip back on the date you want.

I don't think the flights will drop to as low as they did when they announced this new route, but you have 6 months of sales to keep an eye on. I would be making sure you are around a PC every Friday between 4-8pm.

        • Agree, that's the downside of booking with budget airline. Yup, will have to wait for their next sales if not I'll just have to forfeit the entire flights. *sigh

        • From the dontflyjetstar page:

Last night I made a booking in error: Melb to Sydney, Sydney to Melb, meant to be the other way around. When I received the it I called and went thru to Manila where I was advised I could pay a further $600 on top on the $410 (2 people) to correct the booking(4 x $70 plus flight difference). The operator offered me a one off $100 voucher to be use in 6 months, after trying to explain that it would be cheaper to repurchase the tickets so why would anyone pay the $600 I blew my head off with a shot gun.

Fortunately my head grew back this morning and I got advise from my travel agent (who said he didn't like my chances). I called 131538 and asked for Jetstar Holidays (you can't select option 2 anymore) and spoke to a lovely young lady in Melbourne. She sorted the whole thing in a few minutes at no cost.

I apologise about telling a goodish story about Jetstar, but my point is to call Jetstar Holidays and apply your suckiest voice. Good luck!

          Worth a shot.

        • +2

          Great advice.

I booked tix to Bali as a surprise for this Guy I was dating during their bring a friend sale. He cracked the shits saying he wouldn't go even if it was free, hi h for him, it was. I called the booking number and got somewhat abused when I said I made a mistake and my daughter should be in his place, but they changed the name at no charge.

Boy did I ever make a mistake. For three years the same mistake …

        • Jetstar are particularly bad in this respect. My wife once asked me to book a flight to Tasmania, so I booked the flight to Hobart. She then confirmed it was in Lonceston .. I didn't even know there were two airports in Tassy.
Jetstar told me that there was no refund, even though I informed them weeks in advance.
I accidentally called Virgin Blue first - who said they understood and would change the flight for me as it sounded like a genuine mistake … so not all airlines are the same.

  • Hey lusicul,

Just wondering, when did this happen to you. I have had the same thing happen, and I know that I booked the right date because I had someone beside me on their laptop and we compared flight dates and times on the last page so that we had the same, I also wrote down the details to pass on to 2 other families that were booking the same flight. I have written to Jetstar but not heard back as yet. I made my booking around the 24th August, just wondering if you were around the same time? I paid $1000 for the return flights for the 3 of us and they want $1200 to rectify the return flight.

The other family that booked on the same day as well, only put in a search of Brisbane to Bali and their kids ended up going back to Brisabne via Melbourne??? Different flights from the parents? They didn't dispute it and just paid to rectify it.

So I would love to know when you made this booking. Mine was 23rd August

    • Made my booking on 1st August when they had the Honolulu launch sale. I checked the dates many times before confirming payment.
I am still waiting on Jetstar to get back to me, sent email almost 2 weeks ago.
