Ah yes good old half life 3. Definitely one to buy if you have a VR headset.

I jumped on the PSVR2 deal from a few months ago and am loving it, and now I am desperate to play this.
Should I buy now given I will probably buy a Quest 3 in a few months?

      • +5

You cant go wrong if you buy this now. Probably wont go this low until the Xmas sales I reckon

      • +4

Yes, buy it now. It's phenomenal even with my Quest 2, I actually prefer PCVR through my Quest 2 over my PSVR2 so you're in for a treat with Quest 3 if you haven't experienced PCVR with Quest.

I'm now concerned that this is a very slippery slope. I had decided to stick to console gaming a few years ago and my PC is way out of date and hardly used. I can see this getting very expensive!
If only Alyx would come to PS5…

    • +1

I played this on an OG Oculus Rift I bought for $100 and it was bloody unreal. Definitely recommend it.

  • +6

    Phenomenal VR game, strong recommendation!

  • +1

Might jump on this now, as the non-VR mod is close to being ready and looks awesome.

    • +11

If you have the opportunity VR is the best way to play this game.

      • +8

Yeah, I'd go as far as to suggest that watching someone else's playthrough in VR would be better than a pancake version. The game is so fundamentally designed around being in the VR space.

        • +6

Yeah it is one of the best gaming experiences i have had, I wish there were more AAA VR games and more HL games.

    • +2

If you had played the game already you would know its the stupidest mod ever because you don't realise how the game is designed around VR. It would be boring as bats*** without VR because the whole gameplay design is based on using VR controls and interacting with objects and enemies while physically managing and using those controls.

      • +1

Yeah VR is just not for me. The non-VR mod will also run on my potato system so I'll be happy to play within the limitations of the mod and just enjoy the story.

        • +2

I get where you coming from, but without seeing it, you don't understand. You will see what I mean when you play it. You will be disappointed, story or not. You want to see the story, watch the cutscenes on youtube or something.

Also, I can't wait for ppl to complain how crap the game is after playing non-VR mod. It's going to happen.

    • +2

yeah, would never play this non VR - it ruined my VR as there are no other games that match this one

    • +6

I think you forgot your /s tag.

  • +2

    Wow, what a good price.

    A must-play.

  • Damn, just bought it a couple of weeks ago (during that sale) and havent even played it yet

  • +8

Great price.. I played it thru 5 times and the only problem is that it makes all other VR games feel/look lousy in comparison.
If you have a med spec pc and a quest 2 just buy it.

    • +6

100%. I regret that Alyx was my first VR game to play (I mean, I bought Quest 2 for it..). Every other VR games felt like a mobile/casual game after playing Alyx.

  • +5

The best VR game ever. If you buy it on steam you also get access to community mods. I just finished 6h "Levitation" add-on and it was as good as original game. There are mods which are not related to HL like "Gunman contracts" and they are also amazing.

    • +3

I'm still playing the BioShock mod, pretty convincing recreation of Rapture.

  • +3

This is the only game (okay and maybe beatsaber) that has ever seriously interested me in VR. Great price

  • +1

Hope this discount is paving the way for a PSVR2 release….

  • +4

Cmon Gabe, put it on Playstation, your Portal 2 port was shockingly good on the PS3, re-feel the love.

  • +1

Safe to say anyone who wants this already has it given the lack of content of this quality for VR

  • +3

Ever since playing this not only has it ruined VR, but also ruined games somewhat.. Nothing has come as close to the rush. It's insane.

    • +2

I haven't played Alyx, but I've been playing Resident Evil Village on PSVR2, and it is the most intense gaming experience I have ever had!

  • +1

Make sure check the steam workshop under Alyx and subscribe Gunman contracts which is amazing.

  • So don't bother buying this if you don't have VR on your pc?

    • +1

Well, you do need a VR headset of some description. A cheaper standalone headset like a Pico 4 will do. You can connect it to your PC via wi-fi and play steam VR games.

  • You had me at "historic"

  • I don't have VR, but I want to play this so bad lol should I splurge on a $510 Quest 2??? Yes I agree the non-VR mod is an underwhelming way to enjoy this masterpiece game.

    • I have a quest 1 and use that to play it.

As long as you have a good wifi 5+ router close to where you play, and connected by lan to your gaming PC, you will be able to play wirelessly.

Definitely a cheaper way to play this game but bear in mind the Quest 1 doesn't get any support from Meta anymore.

I find VR is also really good for storing Linux Distos

  • +3

Definitely one of the best games ever made. For $30 it's definitely worth it.

  • Is this worth getting with no VR headset?

  • This game was great to play… until I got to the barnacle, then it was nope too scary.

  • +1

    Great VR game, Worth it!
