Laptop Wont Turn Screen off at Set Time Anymore?

I have a windows 10 laptop that just recently stopped turning off the screen after 5 minutes of inactivity. I search around for an answer and going through power settings made sure it was 5 minutes for both plugged in and not plugged in. In settings I also ran the troubleshooter for Power which changes them to times I don't want. It fixes the issue in that the screen now goes off but only on the default time not my time. Anyone had this happen?

    Why not just set a blank screen as a screen saver to come on after 5 mins?

    Fresh install it is then

    • Yeah, anything to do with power savings on windows is complete trash. Even Linus Tech Tips did a special on this a few months ago.

  • Thought I'd check the open apps to see if closing them would help and I narrowed it down to STEAM. When I close steam it works. Is there a setting or something in steam that will disable it's control of power management? I searched through the settings but can't find anything. Or am I better off looking for windows permissions?

      Good trouble shooting. Narrowing search for Steam I found this:-

        Fixed, thanks for pointing me in the right direction trex. Needed to do the following;
        Device manager > USB Controllers > Power Management > Tick box "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power"
        The only two devices that had the power management setting were my mouse and keyboard. Now the screen turns off with Steam running in background minimized to tray. Not sure why this needed to be done, haven't investigated further just happy its fixed.
