    I recommend asking your Bunnings store. They know best. I'm using https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-225mm-1200w-portable-drywa… and it's smoothing out my very average walls. But I'm also using a small orbital for the corners and a quick pass over the walls to get the bits the large drywall sander missed.

  Would this kind of sander be good to sand and change the varnish (to a different colour) on a 6 seat dinning table?

    For a large flat surface you're better off with a bigger pad. I've got one of these and it does pass through a fair bit of vibration with coarser grits. Dust extraction is non-existent for fine dust
