Router Connection Problem

Hi Everyone.

I have three Android media boxes that don't appear or connect to my Telstra Gen2 router. They can connect to my phone Hotspot. Everything else can connect to the router ok. I tried the 2.4GHz setting on the router and it's still the same. Maybe the Wi-Fi is not compatible. I don't want to bin these…

Some devices will only connect if you disable the 5ghz band completely vs having both bands available.

  • Have you tried turning it on and off again

No, but he has tried turning it off, and then back on again.

  • Try turning off band steering in the wifi settings of the router

Also check out what the Authentication Method is. I set up a new fancy modem for my parents and put it on WPA3 for best security. Turns out mum's old crappy tablet only supports WPA, so it could see the network but not connect. Dropped the modem to WPA/WPA2 Personal and it connected fine.

  • Thanks for your replies, switched off and on that many times, router on 2.4ghz,turned steering on and off,and changed WPA settings, and still the same.I will continue using the Boxes with the Phone Hotspot, darn annoying tho!
