I bought a lambswool jumper from uniqlo recently, shrunk so much after the first wash I can't wear it anymore. Should have handwashed it instead of using the washing machine.

I saw one in the op shop like this. The woman serving said they washed it and it shrank to a kids size. So she put it on the kids rack.

common with wool in general, should have chosen delicate and if you want to use spin, choose the lowest RPM possible, cold water, and use wool wash detergent…

mine is still okay… and i've destroyed several jumpers/base layers in the past…

With 4 kids we do lots of washing so no time for that for me, will stick to cheap cotton clothes haha

        • well wool fabrics in general rarely need washing as they dont seem to trap my sweat like synthetic/cotton variants…

i have merino base layer that i wore for hiking and cycling and i only wash it when i feel like it…

          • @meong: The sweat is still there. I would feel very dirty wearing it multiple times before washing.

            • @Cozzie: Try No Pongs, it works great for me

      Seems normal.

You shouldn’t need to wash wool products much, assuming they don’t become soiled in some way.

Have to do cold wash, that is the main thing.

I had a merino wool beanie from macpac that shrunk in the first warm wash, it was so small you couldn't fit a hamster in it. For real.

      • Have to do cold wash

        We always do, still shrunk

        • so…

          I didn't put on weight!! :D Yay!

I haven't had a problem with woolen products from Aldi shrinking, but my first wash is always in cold water in a bowl. I had a (mostly) woolen jumper that, instead of shrinking, the arms extended in length after hanging it on a line. Lesson is: flat dry chunky jumpers after removing as much water as possible.

"Lightweight and airy" - stupid for a jumper. Sweaters are for cold weather and should be thick and warm. I'm not a fan of Uniqlo's minimalism, the Ikea of apparel.

    • Yes the reviews say the same.
You're meant to handwash not machine wash.
