Note that while the thumbnail shows Beat Saber game being thrown in as a bonus, the offer has already expired as of Dec 2022. Amazon Jp hasn't updated the product images with the correct one.

You might get some amazon credit to reimburse you if you complain

      • can you even talk to az jp from here?

        • +1

how well do you speak Japanese?

        • +5

Speak to aussie amazon. They handle the support if bought via amazon au

          • +7

@easternculture: My experience buying stuff from Amazon.com.au when the seller is Amazon US has been pretty bad in terms of customer support. Basically three only suggestion they would give is to return the product and re-order

            • +1

@DeToxin: Ive had refunds/keep item from amazon japan and germany for incorrect item description

              YMMV

Note: Quest 3 is a few months away

    • +9

I don't know if we will see much of a dip in quest 2 prices on quest 3 release as the quest 3 is going to be AU$829.99+

      • +2

I mean mine will.be cheap on eBay, while I buy the 3

        • Sure, secondary(used) market will see a dip, but I don't think new will see much

    • +5

With a $829.99 AUD price tag. I was planning on getting a gaming laptop… but this might be the way to go for me. Getting too old for big games with long stories.

release date set for Autumn 2023. it's winter tho…
But, how are these standalone vs PC tethered VR thingies?
If Pc ones need super GPUs, how can a snapdragon run one just as well?

        • There are graphical compromises.

But no, you don't need a super GPU. A 1070 will do PC VR just fine.

          • +4

@Jonzay: If you are running a 1070 then the quality of game you can play once you factor in overheads from com/decompression of the image aren’t going to be a lot better than on the native quest 2

            • +1

@George2021: It's still possible to do, which answers the question asked.

          • +1

@Jonzay: I've got a 3080 for VRchat and it barely gets by when you're in a party room full of people. Yes I'm aware the game is inefficient lol

        • +2

It's fall 2023…. In the US obviously.

        • +2

They don’t run them just as well. The quest runs mobile phone quality games. It’s basically the difference between high end pc gaming and what the nintendo64 used to do

          • +4

@George2021: I want to say it's more like GameCube/PS3. But the first party quest games are just made in certain graphical styles to make it look better.

        • You'll need it tethered if you're playing anything of substance.

The games you can play untethered are awesome but not very intensive or broad in scope.

          • @imurgod: What's the pinnacle of PCVR now? (hardware/software)
Looking around I see mentions of Star Wars: Squadrons, Pistol Whip, Beat Saber, Skyrim, Superhot which are the same as 4yr ago when I got the lenovo wmr deal, and a lot of them are still 1440px

            • @furyou: It depends on what you're looking for.

I have a Rift S and an Oculus Quest 2. The reason I haven't gone for something like a Pimax or HP Reverb G2 is that I use it for Sim Racing 99% of the time and the key for that is running a constant high framerate which is taxing for even the most powerful PCs (and that's what I have).

I think you'd be fine with even a mid-spec PC but given the prices nowadays, I'd get something with a 3080 gfx card or similar and maybe the G2 if you don't like the Oculus (I'll likely get the Oculus 3 because of the pancake lenses and the first rate wireless connection to PC).

Hell, for the games you mentioned, I think even a standalone Oculus Quest 2 would be more than adequate without the need for a PC.

Of course, if you wanted to start playing more demanding VR games, you could always get a PC down the track.

q3 and its not OLED, psvr2 seems better and cheaper

        • +1

Psvr cant plug into a PC (unless im mistaken) so it isnt better in that respect, you are pretty much limited to a PS5.

          • +1

            @Spendmore: It can't.

Also the quest wireless mode with a PC is amazing. Having no cable at all is great

            • @RI4V4N: not really - q2 is rubbish to be honest
OLED plus better haptics, resolution etc make psvr2 that much better - cable sucks yes

              • +1

@botchie: Has the PSVR 2 been hacked to work with PCs?

                • @Diji: even if they do what's the point when you cant hack into ps5 library
RE Village - RE4 remake plus few other games are exclusive to psvr2

                  • +3

                    @botchie: So you're telling me it's rubbish for anyone without a PS5?

                    • @Diji: yes, a big pile of poop as you cant run it

              • @botchie: The resolution is basically the same, difference is my PC can actually do that resolution at 60+ fps, unlike a PS5 lol. Most games can barely run 4k 60 on a medium quality on a PS5. None of the fancy Nvidia tech with their mid level old gen Radeon GPUs either.

Tbh having no cable matters more than any of these very minor differences.

Also ykno, all the stuff the walled playstation garden won't let you do, like community made beatsaber libraries or people adding vr into old games.

                • +1

                  @RI4V4N: not really
PSVR2's lens resolution is 2000x2040 per eye.
Quest 2 has a lens resolution of 1832x1920 per eye. That's not a huge drop-off, but PSVR2's lenses are OLED, while Quest 2's are LCD which is a massive difference

                  • @botchie: It's really minor when you consider the graphical fidelity of a PS5 vs a PC. I'm aware of the oled difference. It's just tiny compared to all the other quest 2 benefits.

                    • @RI4V4N: the only thing q2 has over psvr2 is that its wireless and this is ass half the time. - I have one , its not flawless
                      oh and library is better
OLED is a game changer +
extra resolution = everything looks 10X better
                      haptics
works better from a plug and play perspective
                      psvr2 is more comfortable

                      • @botchie: Tiny resolution difference. Oled is nicer.

But way worse graphics than a gaming pc hooked up to the quest. The PS5 is running last Gen mid tier radeon GPUs. Not even debatable.

Lastly, overly expensive games from Sony's walled garden vs steam and the entire internet, including vr modes people have made independently for older games.

                      • @botchie:

the only thing q2 has over psvr2 is that its wireless

And the PC compatibility, right? Surely that's a feature worth comparing. A whole slew of extra games plus mods that make flat games into VR ones. Seems like a big deal to me.

      • Have you used VR?

VR is a lot more work, fatiguing and has plenty more limitations then PC gaming.

      • I purchased Diablo IV the other week and just cant keep up with little shits.

Don't even get me started on games like COD/Counter Strike, old man reflexes…

    • I just want a system my wife and I can play far more songs on synth riders

No where near enough on ps5, these guys are leaving money on the table

      • I played this at some VR place last week or so. I didn't like it as much as Beat Saber.

Super Hot though… that's my favourite VR game so far.

  • Any usb c is fine from my testing…

  • +7

It's just slightly cheaper, not sure why someone would buy this when eventually Amazon will give you a $100 voucher or some discount with the Australian version.

    • Only on prime day

      • +1

It's had it on every major Amazon sale I've seen.
Next one will be black friday/Cyber Monday, which had the offer last year

        • If you want to wait that long, why not

  • +2

    Charger is just usb-c

I thought it was a deal on Phantom of the Opera masks.

  • +3

If only this thing wasn't Facebook related. Probably the best Australian option given Valve has apparently decided to completely abandon us.

  • Will this work with prescription glasses? Have not got a chance to try it yet.
    Thanks.

    • I use glasses in my quest 1. It might depend on your glasses though if you have big eye frames then maybe not.

    • It should come with a spacer that allows for wearing glasses, however it depends on the size of your glasses as some may be too wide to fit easily. You can also buy prescription addon lenses which attach directly to the regular lenses so you don’t need to wear glasses.

    • Even with the spacer I dreaded playing VR for the glasses pushed into my face.

I bought some magnetic prescription lenses that just pop in and out, and it's a game-changer! (Get your vision details from where you get your glasses / eyes tested)

Can send you a link if you want.

      • Would like a link for this please

  • Is this a good buy? Looking to get into VR.

Just wait until the Quest 3 comes out and then make up your mind. The Quest 3 has a lot of significant upgrades over the Quest 2 including:

      • XR2 Gen 2 chip which is 50% more efficient than the XR2 Gen 1 chip in the current Quest 2. The Gen 2 chip in the Quest 3 may also be able to do AV1 decoding which offers better wireless PCVR quality.
      • Pancake lens for edge-to-edge clarity (most headsets use Fresnel lens which has a sweet spot meaning it will be blurry on edges).
      • Colour passthrough for more immersive AR experiences

Meta will probably have a couple Quest 3 exclusive titles as well. Having had the Quest 2 and currently own a pancake lens headset, I would not recommend getting the Quest 2 based on the lens alone. The pancake lens are just too good to pass up for immersion.

      • quest 3

I am for sure going to grab a quest 3, but according to gizmodo, Meta Quest 3 will cost $829.99 in Australia, with a release date set for Autumn 2023.
So i mean..fair bit extra. The upgrades sound worth it though if budget allows for the buyer.

    • Yes.

Any good for watching corn hub videos?

    • +2

Asking the real questions right here.

    • Yeh, also good for only fans

  • +3

just wait a little and quest 3 will be here. This is now a sorta dud deal

  • Newbie to purchasing from Amazon overseas sites. How does warranty/returns usually work? Are they as lenient as Amazon AU?

  • +2

Don't forget your referrals for bonus credit you receive for buying a headset and also when buying games:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/oculus.com

  • Now $442! Price just dropped on amazon

  • Thanks for the post, reminded me I need to sell my Quest 2!
Good fun, but I hardly used it after the first week or two.

  • Another price drop to $435

  • Back to $458.99 :) lol

  • is it worth getting Quest 2 just to use it for Google Earth VR? I don't mind the 430 price currently but not sure I'd be willing to pay 830 for quest 3 for Google Earth VR, would it make the experience much better? like $400 better?
