amazing cooler but do check if it fits in your case if you're a sff person like me! not compatible with the a4 h2o for instance

there are some good deals on ek coolers via mwave and pccg atm, too, so those may serve as a good alternative to those in a similar situation to me.

    • +1

good call, be aware of the thickness of this radiator. It's thicker than a regular one.

      • +1

Also the height of the barbs/stiff tubing coming off the plate.

    • I'm in the preliminary stages of planning out an A4 H20 build. It'll be my first PC build in 25 years and SFF is really appealing. It was either a SFF or just buy a 4090 Legion 7.

I was just wondering apart from FE, do you know which 4090s fit in A4 H20?

Ventus X3 supposedly and also Suprim liquid X , but I want to run an Kraken Z53 AIO, so no space for liquid rad.

      • unfortunately i think those might be your only options. i'm not super familiar with 40xx compatibility and the a4-h2o but that's my understanding.

        which cpu are you considering?

        • 7800X3D or i7-13700k. I'm not sure if I need it, as I will be playing all games at 4k with my 42" C2 OLED. I haven't researched enough, but they both perform just as well at 4k.

I really haven't looked into too much yet because the costs are a bit frightening. Having said that, it's something I'm hoping I will be using for at least the next 6-8 years.

What mobo would you recommend? Would an SF750 PSU cut the mustard? Where can I save money? Slower ram? CPU?

          • +2

@NoApostrophePlurals: you know, if you go with the former (im planning the same) you can probably get away with a really slim air cooler. this is probably your best bet these days, and it'll fit inside the a4-h2o (memory height + motherboard vrm may influence this, so do double check). you may need to leave some performance on the table but it shouldn't make too much of a difference at 4k. not super pretty, of course, but it's unfathomably efficient and definitely the way to go for a case so small imo. then you can get a baller 4090!

i picked up this motherboard myself last week. good price and well reviewed. managed to snag it at a good price so maybe keep an eye out for discounts.

sf750 is the go-to and it could certainly power a 7800x3d+4090 - it's a pretty common setup. an undervolt on the gpu wouldn't hurt, though.

and yeah, everything's pretty steep nowadays. if you're exclusively gaming you could always opt for an am4 setup with a 5800x3d, which is still super competitive and it won't bottleneck you for a long time. in my opinion, though, this will only save you money in the short term, because there's no upgrade path. alternatively, a ryzen 7600/x or 7700/x will also perform similarly to a 7800x3d for much less, though they may be less efficient. you can definitely save some change by buying slower ram and overclocking it - you might find this insightful. you could also look at options other than a 4090 - maybe consider a 7900 xtx or 4080? otherwise, sff is an expensive option unfortunately :(

    • ah bummer. also looking at an a4 h20 build too…. (would love to go C4 SFX but alas seems that boat has sailed for now until v2 next yr). Hadn't got far in AIO research but had read artics are nice and quiet. Any recommendations welcome! (first build ever…so SFF will be fun)

EDIT - for thermals context, likely a 7600x on a MSI B650i mobo, together with something like a TUF 4070ti (will just fit!) and a 750W PSU

      • +2

the ek basic 240 is well recommended and you can get a non rgb for $110 from mwave atm or the rgb version at pccg for a slightly loftier price. however, dan himself has noted that the tubing is quite short and this can cause problems with the radiator. id consider this as a good alternative - got one on the way at the moment. amazon gave me a 20% off coupon for having prime too which made it an absolute steal but idk if that was targeted or if it's still available.

this thread (sort by new) is recommended reading. this case is really popular, though, so most aios you'll find will have someone who has asked if it's compatible - ensure you do your due diligence and google frequently, checking reddit and the smallformfactor.net forum

PS: did you end up grabbing that msi am5 mobo? i remember you commenting under my post of that but it's out of stock now so hopefully you got in while you could!

        • +1

awesome, many thanks mate. will check all that out.

ah yeh didnt realise that was you! sheet no i didnt grab it, hadnt realised gone OOS. but I see eg scorptec have it for $319 (wrong mobo lol!), and can get for $315 with current CA ebay plus 17%. seems pretty decent. just trying to decide if start pulling trigger on some parts now, or wait to BF/CM to see how much if any better things go. No mad rush for the build…. :-)

        • what SFF have you built in/currently building in and for what use/s? just interested in your experience (and can't see that I can PM you)…

          • +1

@gazer: should be able to now. i built in a htpc type silverstone case many years ago for someone but i have no itx experience otherwise. besides, the market has changed so drastically with the rise of the sandwich form factor so i have no clue how relevant that frustrating experience will be anyway. this is my second build for myself after many years of my trusty 4790k serving me well inside a phanteks enthoo pro and it'll be predominantly for gaming but also software development

      • the dan c4-sfx situation was a real bummer. the v2 renders look terrible imo ;(

  • +3

Good price, just keep in mind this is probably signalling that the Freezer III/3 is imminent.

    • Probably more to do with the RGB version being out for a year already

      • That's been sold out at PCCG for a while, and Arctic reps have been dropping strong hints on social media for a few months.

    • any info floating around for the iii?

      • +2

Just a rep hinting it wouldn't be far away as of May. Non-RGB is discontinued now, and there's little to no ARGB stock here in Australia.

How much of that is a reflection that it's been a top recommendation for 3 years, versus slowing down production to produce a new model, I can't say.

        • Yeah new one is definitely coming IMO - this has been leading the charts for years and is a very popular recommendation. Tons of reviews use it, too. No way they'd discontinue this line of very successful coolers I reckon

Keen to see the new one decimate the competition

        • Scorptech has had it for a while and was discounted to $139 for 240mm and 280 mm for $159
They have it in both their ebay store and Amazon store for slightly more

    • +1

Yep, arctic customer service mentioned a version is imminent with a new pump head design implied. Many issues with the original not fitting new boards.

    • +2

Bah, there's always something new and better on the horizon, live in the now!

      • This is slowly being superceded in the now. :P

I've already got an NH-D15 sitting on top of a Zen 2 chip, but I'll revisit cooling for my next system.

  • +3

    Check motherboard compatibility too.

  • -1

    No RGB, no deal ;p

    • +7

You need unicorn poop to make you game better? Lol

      • -1

Yes, looking at the blinky RGB lights makes me feeling awesome, so I can beat all my mates in FPS games XD

      • +1

Its a requirement for those of us who are 5.

        RGB for life

      • Yeah, as if there is no setting to turn it off when I want right? Do people ever complain about room lighting make them not sleeping well at night? No, because they can (profanity) turn it off, that's how RGB on pc parts work as well.

    • +8

After all the issues I've had with RGB not working correctly (including just being able to turn it off), all dark build is the way I prefer.

  • +3

Get a PA120SE or PS120SE if your motherboard and case allow it. Heatsink cooler with fans is much more reliable without potential leak concern compared to AIO.

    • I really don't think you need to worry about leakage with modern AIO's.

      • I thought so too until my Corsair H100 leaked all over a 3080ti (still works but was a bit of a surprise).

That being said I switched to a Noctua heatsink and it’s loud and doesn’t cool as well as an AIO in my experience.

        • +1

What noctua? If you got a NH D-15 for example it should be a fair bit quieter than an AIO and performance will be similar or in some cases better.

          • @combatant: I got a NH D-15 chromax black one. I run an overclocked 10900k and it's more an airflow thing. In a Fractal Define R5 I can't get enough air going through it to adequately cool a 3080ti and 10900k at the same time.

I generally just pop the front of the case off and it works fine, so it really is just airflow

            • @koreanfriedchicken: Fair enough, can't really blame it on the cooler then as you'd have the same issue with an AIO.

  • what i really want is one of these for my Dell 3070.
damned fans on the stock card are noisy!

    • Deshroud and zip tie on some 120mm fans? Not uncommon in SFF builds.

  • Does anyone know if this would fit AM5 CPU?

And is it very noisy? I got a deepcool le500 one at the moment and wondering if this would be an improvement noise wise

    • looks like it uses the standard am4 backplate so should be fine

    • This is one of the most reviewed (and best performing) AIOs. I have no doubt that it would be an improvement in terms of noise https://www.enostech.com/best-240mm-clc-aio-coolers-2021-wit…

In particular, check this graph showing the difference in sound levels at max speeds (and how close it is to the top of cooling)

    • if it's too noisy, just change the fans out for the arctic P12s (i.e. the fans that come on this AIO). $15/fan if not on sale, can't go wrong.

    • +1

this has afaik the best noise normalised thermals of any other aio out there. you can't do much better, mostly thanks to this not using a junk asetek pump. the arctic fans help too.

  • Still using mine, these are Fantastic. OCed 5600x still remains in 65-70c max under load.

  • I have a Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120, would this be an upgrade? On a 13600K

    • https://youtu.be/Mm4hyIHe1PM?t=1008 this review shows the 280mm version in the graphs and comparisons but I believe the 240mm (which is on sale here) would also be performing similar and would beat it. You would get an upgrade, but the consensus is that you likely wouldn't get much benefit in game performance. Mostly noise and performance at the top end of your CPU if you do a lot of tasks at 100%

  • +5

Would but pccg takes 10years to ship products

  • Not going to lie, whenever I see any Arctic cooler, I can just hear Steve telling me about the Arctic Liquid Freezer II xD

  • UPDATE: amazon now have this for $97.99 + postage at the arctic store https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WSDLRVP

The link you have provided is for Amazon US where the prices are in USD.

    • +1

Worth editing out imo, I thought for a second that arctic started selling on amazon AU

    • this is more expensive.

  • Will this fit the 10900k?

    • yes, lga1200 is supported.

      • I have a Noctua NH-D15 cooler, is it worth switching to this?

        • +2

The D15 imho would be better. Zero chance of pump failure or anything going wrong with it really. Sure, the D15 is huge, but it's a quieter option compared to AIO's which can need more fans. If you're after looks, this would be better since it takes less real estate on the mobo. If you're after quiet, D15. If you want black, get thr D15 chroma upgrade pack for $70

  • Anyone try running this direct on die?

  • +1

Great performing cooler and fantastic price, but I really cant get over how it looks. The toy-spaceship look with the mini vrm fan It is not for me.

  • Has anyone ever used Tecware AIO? I saw a 240AIO selling as $79 and looks alright, https://www.pcbyte.com.au/p/tecware-mirage-240-argb-240mm-li…
But never heard about this brand before.

  • +1

    Flawless AIO cooler.
Double check your case sizing and the screw hole patterns for top of your case if top mounting but this has been amazing cooling my R7 7800X3d

  • +1

Can this cool a graphics card also?

  • +1

So 8 days later and still not posted.
Looks like what they say is right about PCCG…
I called up and apparently it is at the front of the queue.
I probably should call back and cancel…

    • PCCG has gone really crappy in years of late. When i was buying from them 12years ago, they still charged MASSIVE postage costs BUT they were shipped fast. All these years later, they still charge an arm and leg for postage but they don't ship for AGES! Dunno why…. Been buying elsewhere in the past 5years and only use their site for a research purpose lol

      • +1

Yeah I did cancel with them and got it from Amazon for a few $$$ more.
It was delivered in 2 days…
I won't be buying anything from PCCG again, ever.
