Citibank Prestige Interstate Flight Inconvenience Insurance

I am travelling to Noosa in September for a week and I am trying to work out whether I need to buy travel insurance.

I have a Citibank Prestige card and this comes with complimentary insurance as per the heading with the caveat that the return trip is paid for on the card. I paid for the return flights by redeeming classic reward seats using Qantas points and paid the residual taxes on the Citibank credit card.

My question is whether the above scenario would qualify me for the complimentary insurance or not? The PDS doesn’t seem to be much help as it’s not mentioned.

Give ‘em a tingle on the old dog and bone and ask ‘em

    • That has a very different meaning in my household

From what i remember, if you haven't earnt any of the points redeemed from the citi card you don't get the insurance.

    • This is absolutely right. If the qantas points weren't earned on the Prestige then you won't get the insurance.

  • Call Citi and ask. Unless you list the full PDS T&C here no one can tell you for sure if everything is gonna be fine.

  • This "return flight" term gets me too. I almost always book my flights one-way. If I book both one-way flights on the card am I insured? What if there are more than two one-way flights in the trip?

The conditions are definitely out-of-touch with the way many people book modern flights: I didn't show up to my local travel agent to book and I haven't been issued a facsimile ticket.
