Changing deals after getting the deal on the front page

I Voted for this deal

http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/79117

When I voted for this deal it was a desk top for $199 with USB3 and HDMI out. I loged into today to find my +ve vote still active on a differnt set up. Surely this should have been marked as sold out, and a new deal posted?

    Seems they are :-)

  • The OP whether a rep or not shouldn't be changing the product on the deal as you are right, users have voted for that product. E.G. Users vote up a phone and OP changes to a vacuum cleaner.

In this case, I think it's a bit different. The rep builds PCs and has substituted 1 part.

    Original deal for $199:

    _M/B: ECS H61H2-M7
    _RAM: 4GB DDR3 Corsair Desktop RAM 1333MHz
_HDD: 160GB SATA HDD, Seagate 5400RPM
_OPT: 24x Dual Layer DVD Burner
    _COM: Gigabit Ethernet, 2x USB 3.0, 4x USB 2.0, 2x USB 2.0 (Front)
_DISP: 1x VGA output, 1x DVI Output, 1x HDMI Output
    _O/S: NOT INCLUDED
_WTY: 1 Year Vision Tech RTB Warranty

    Current deal for $199:

OPTION 1 The Get Smart PC - $199
    _CPU: Intel G540 Dual Core @ 2.5GHz
    _M/B: JW H61M-L3
    _RAM: 4GB DDR3 Corsair Desktop RAM 1333MHz
_HDD: 160GB SATA HDD, Seagate 5400RPM
_OPT: 24x Dual Layer DVD Burner
_COM: Gigabit Ethernet, 4x USB 2.0, 2x USB 2.0 (Front), 5.1 Sound Card
    _DISP: 1x VGA output
    _O/S: NOT INCLUDED
_WTY: 1 Year Vision Tech RTB Warranty

    Rep stated:

    POST UPDATE: 6:20PM EST
ADVERTISED MOTHERBOARD (ECS H61H2-M7) HAS SOLD OUT! ALL NEW ORDERS FROM THIS POINT WILL BE USING THE FOLLOWING MOTHERBOARD - JW H61M-L3

    DIFFERENCES:
New motherboard does NOT have HDMI
New motherboard does NOT have USB 3.0
New motherboard DOES have 5.1 surround sound card

If you have already ordered, your order is fine and will be sold as initially advertised. Any NEW orders will be using the above motherboard.

Looks like the rep thought swapping out the motherboard was a similar substitution. Users believe it's not a like for like.

I've edited the post to reflect the original post in the current post.

  • Thanks for editing the post for "historical reasons"

  • What we are developing currently is enabling users to also see the revisions and compare them. Moreover, "power users" will be introduced to allow minor editing to the content (fix title, add clarification, etc) and view/compare revisions will add transparency to this process.

    • Interesting idea, but who will be classified as a power user? If there are too many of them with access to this ability it may be on going edits of the post with no consistency as everyone will have a different opinion as to what the post should be changed to. Giving out "mod" like abilities to even a select few from the masses may be more trouble than it's worth.

      • Guidelines can probably help with consistency, and that also includes putting facts about the deal in the main deal content, and opinions in the comments. With full revision view/diff I am hoping that "editors" would behave themselves, and for start moderators will be able to give/take away this ability to/from users.

Well we've been doing heaps of experiments over here on OzBargain on how members react to changes. We'll see.
