Best Value 85 Inch TV

Hello community,

Please allow me to ask a question: I’m interested in an 85 inch TV for our house. I understand I can purchase an 85 inch for $4000-$5000 (or more). Is anybody having a value tip for a TV of this size that is less expensive? I understand you get what you pay for but perhaps someone has a few good tips.

Your comments are much appreciated, thank you very much.

For that size, you want something with FALD (full-array local dimming) since edgelit on that size will look like utter garbage (Light Bleed near the edges and blacks will be grey. HDR will be horrible as well)

The Sony X90J when it goes down to around 2.5k is fantastic deal. (2022 model)
The 2023 TVs just came out so most of the prices are quite high. The new Sony X90, TCL 845 and Hisense U8k will be good once their prices settle a bit.

If you buy Samsung normally the Q80 and above will have FALD , but Samsung still refuse to license dolby vision so I personally don't like them

      Thank you very much!
      X90K is 2022 or am I mistaken? That is K = 2022?
      Did you mean X90K or X90J (J = 2021?) which I thought was 2021 model?
Please correct me if I am wrong.

You are correct in saying that the X90J is a 2021 model.

The Sony 85” X90K has been on special around the 2.5k mark a few times in recent months, and I would say that is easily your best bang for buck for an 85”.

Great value units can also be found in the 2nd hand market, especially with Aus Consumer Law effectively providing warranty on 2nd hand goods under a certain age. I bought a 1 year old 85” X9000H for $2000 and couldn’t be happier. That said, units this size are few and far between even in capital cities. I’ve seen a handful of 85” Sony X90’s go for similar prices, and a 77” LG CX went for $2650 earlier today.

    • I have seen the XR65X90K and liked the picture and that it was snappy (XR chip).
At the moment, I can’t find the 85 model for 2.5K which would be a good deal as you suggested. I am open for other brand deals, of course.

      • Here is a list of the recent prices it has gone for - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/sony-bravia-xr-85x90k

If you can hold out till Black Friday it will probably go even cheaper than this.

        • Thank you very much. I missed the last 20 July deal. Maybe I am lucky and they pop up again in the next few days.

    • Thanks for the 2nd hand tip. Will have a look, too.

  • Thank you very much! Very helpful! If I go for X90K, which retailer would be best to go for?

Is it your main TV…. or for like a kids TV/game room?

    • It would be our main living room TV.

I recently bought a Hisense 85" A7KAU 4K UHD LED Smart TV [2023] for $1,436.00 (it was on sale) to replace my projector setup

Also got a Google UHD TV for it as well (as i prefer that than the smart tv stuff for easy of setup etc)

    Super happy with it.

    • Thanks! I will look into it. How did you get that price?

JB hi fi had it on sale - also had it with 6 months free Kayo so if you use that its even cheaper.
