Xiaomi Whalespout Toilet Seat Stuck

I bought one of the whalespout toilet seats a couple years ago from one of the posted deals here.
I am updating the bathroom and installing a new toilet so I went to remove the seat and - no joy. There is a small sliding latch on one side meant to disengage the locking device from the mount, but no matter what, I cannot get it to release. As the old pot was destined for the skip I smashed the mounting holes to remove the seat, but even in this state I cannot get the latch to release, I have looked online but cannot find any detail of the mechanism.

If anyone has one at their place, could you please remove the seat and provide a couple photos of the mechanism and how it latches into the mounting place, I'm hoping once I know the engineering of the latch I will be able to slide in some shims to release it.

Cheers.

No, I thought I would come here first.
I know how to remove it, the problem is the latch will not fully disengage.

'whalespout'….you cant make this shit up! lol!

  • Did you figure it out? I bought a new toilet and my whalespout no longer fits, so can check for you. Pretty sure its just the one release button then pull horizontally towards you.

    • No joy - I know how it is supposed to come off, but it will not.

  • Just checked. The button to push in is on right hand side. Literally just push that in fully and it slides out. Might just need some brute force.

    • As I have said - I know the latch is there, I know how it works, but at full extension of the latch the mechanism will not release, no matter what force is applied - could you take a photo of the underside of the seat so I can see what the mechanism looks like - I'm hoping If I can see where the latch is I may be able to slide a thin shim under it.

I managed to drill a small hole from below the mounting bracket and actuated the latch with a small allen key.
