lol wtf, was $14.95?! How is this game not free by now?

    • +12

Because it's a great effing game made better recently with enhanced visuals and audio and more levels. Worth 5 bucks at least I'd say.

  • This is the original quake ? Or a new one ?

    • Original

      • +1

Jesus I thought this would be on mobile … By now

        • +3

I recall plying it on a Nokia N95 around 2008 or so. It’s certainly possible. The pace of the game and controls might be a bit iffy for a touchscreen.

For what it’s worth the Quake remake is by all accounts an amazing port of the game.

Rumour is Quake 2 will be announced this week coinciding with Quakecon, which will be a day one buy for me.

          • @Smigit: Wait Quake 2 as in:

            • The sequel to Quake
            • The sequel to the remake of Quake
            • Quake 5? (2)

            ??

            • @miicah: Strong rumours that a remaster of Quake 2 will hit all consoles and PCs, similar to this Quake 1 re-release. Quake 1 dropped at Quakcon two years prior with no initial lead, and some news sites are expecting that id Software will do the same this year with Quake 2. I think Nightdive studios that do a lot of porting including Quake 1 have been mentioned.

From memory one country announced a rating a few months back for a Quake 2 release which supported the rumours it was coming.

As for Quake 5, haven’t heard anything about that but there’s people hoping it happens. Doom Eternal arrived 3 years now so id Software could conceivably be well along on their next title, especially since they already did some work to update their engine for current generation consoles with the Doom Eternal patches.

@Smigit: Lol same! Played it on my Nokia N95 in 2008 and 2009!!

          • +1

@Smigit: As long as the dopefish is still there…

    • An update, mostly with QoL improvements including cross-platform multiplayer and gyro controls.
Also includes all previous DLC and a new episode.

With the "rumours" of Quake 2 getting remastered, and this re-release already being out, let me just say,

Shut up and re-release Quake 3. I (profanity) LOVE that they made Quake Arena Live back compat, I play it all the time, and I am perfectly happy with whichever version I choose on the day on the Steam Deck, if nothing comes out, then so be it, but also, shut up and re-release Quake 3.

    • +1

Curious how that would go. Quake Live is still going so would a re-release if Quake 3 risk just splitting the user base. Part of me feels like porting Quake Live to consoles and allowing optional (but not mandatory due to disadvantage reasons) cross play might be a better bet?

I haven’t been following QL or Q3 however so not sure where the communities are at. If they did re-release Q3 on console I’d be up for it though.

    • Not sure what the point of a q3a re-release would be? Is anybody going to play multiplayer arena shooters on a console or mobile (vs pc players)?
If you just want to play, ioquake is a great source port for running on modern PCs.

      • Like Battlefront, I can still spend hours in these bad boiz completely offline with bots. Outside of LAN matches in high school, the vast majority of my time in Quake 3 was offline bots / campaign. The Xbox Live port was great, had (profanity) tonnnnnnnes of levels. Still never made it all the way to the end.

    • I love quake 1 and 2. I hope the rumours turn true real soon. I played the updated Q1 for months after I got it, such an addiction.

    • The RTX Quake 2 is the best we’ve got at a visual upgrade, albeit demanding hardware wise.

  • +2

I used to play it on my 386 pc with 4MB ram lol

    • +1

      AMD 386-DX40,

      • That's my boy :)
        + 1MB VESA video card.

    • +4

How did you manage that when minimum specs were Pentium 75 and 8mb RAM? A 386 wasn’t a great experience for Doom, let alone Quake.

    • We had a 286 with less ram… Could barely load it let alone play it. Wolfenstein i could play but not Quake

  • +4

Oh the memories, I used to play TF1 about 8hrs a day for 7 months straight.

Struggled with my 200ms ping with the pros with 20ms but I team did pretty well :)

    • +3

      bloody LPBs

    • +2

I spent many many hours on TF1, was an amazing game.

  • +4

    Maybe an Ozbargain deathmatch?

    • +1

      yes please

  • I'm not sure what playform to by this on, PC as originally played for WASD control or Console to go with my collection…maybe both

  • +5

    The greatest game ever!!!

  • +1

I still play this game - its one of my favourites - looks awesome and plays well with the community mods available for enhancing the graphics

  • If i buy this for PC, does that mean i get it for all the other platforms also since it's available for every platform?

    • Nope. (sadly)

      That would be like:

‘buy the pc version - get every platform version for free’

      • Well i thought that it being such an old game and available on all platforms, that if purchased, you buy the game and own it for whatever platform you like (can choose whatever platform you want to play at the time) as a lot of people own more than one pc/console combination.

No PlayStation fan should buy this after bugthesda sold out to microsoft

  • Man I remember downloading the shareware version of this on my 33.6k modem. Couldn't believe how awesome it was.

    • How long did that take to download? Brings back a LOT of memories using dial-up internet speeds…. And the sound it made when connecting lmao!!! Plus, it used to cost $0.20 per dial-up if/when it dropped out. Used to lose connection 10-20× a night lol. Probably did it on purpose to make more $$ in the phone bill.

      • +1

Mine used to do that until I realised it was Call Waiting that was disconnecting the modem.

You had to dial *61# or something to enable/disable it as I was online all the time haha. It may have been the same problem with your phone line

        • Now that you mention it, that did cause quite a few dropouts! Forgot about that call waiting stuff. Jeeeeez now i feel old! Memory going, dial-up internet, phone bills, landlines…. And i'm only in my early 40's lmao!!
We didn't have internet in school or anything. Makes you wonder what you could've become having all that information and tech if you had it in school??

  • Failed my HSC because of this game.

  • -1

Not buying from bugthesda after they sold out to microsoft

    • +1

You'll post this tripe once a week? Fanboyism is so lame.

      • -1

        Nah hating microsoft is normal

  • Missed out, but considering I have hundreds in my shame pile, maybe it will be cheap again before I get around to it anyway.

Does anyone know if they kept the NIN soundtrack to this game? I used to listed to that on my walkman back in the uni days. Noticing that so many games have their original music ripped from them on re-release, and some games dropping off all together because developers can't be arsed replacing the music, I don't know what's worse.
