Reoccurring Fraudulent Credit Card Transactions

Couple of months ago, I noticed some fraudulent transactions on my Qantas credit card. Monthly amounts between $60-$80 from some really random websites- which all talk about IT helpdesks and aren't actual companies.
I reported them to Qantas and they cancelled my card and going through the process of trying to get the money back.
However, few weeks after another 3 transactions came through on the cancelled card. When I queried this, they said "I set them up as reoccurring transactions" and hence they are still coming through on the old, cancelled card. And that I need to speak with the company to stop it.
My first thought- why would a transaction come through a cancelled card? I thought that would stop everything
I'm going through the complaints process now, as I can't reach these so called companies and I don't know when another transaction will appear and I have to keep lodging disputes.
any one had anything similar?

Keep disputing them. Don't do anything else. Move away from that card asap .

Qantas should've blocked these if they actually cancelled the card and it should've bounced, my Netflix bounces everytime i churn a card. No direct debit should be allowed to go through.
The only time the account would be active is if a refund comes through.

    Fcuk Qantas up.

      Fcuk Qantas up.

Isn't it just the NAB using QANTAS as a front to get more clients.

That's what I thought. Once you cancel the card, all should cease. What's the point otherwise.

      • I would expect this to happen too….

Visa and mastercard (and amex) now offer account updater services.

If they are recurring they basically give them your new account details to the merchant in a round about way if it is a recurring transaction, since these are generally assumed not to be fraud.

        :"Issuers Submit Updates to Visa
Visa card issuers submit electronic files with updates to Visa when a cardholder’s
account information changes. Such updates could result from a product upgrade, a
portfolio conversion between Visa issuers or from MasterCard, American Express, or
Discover to Visa, card expiration, loss or theft, account closure or other changes."

"VAU responses are forwarded to the requesting merchants, ……. Responses include
account number updates, expiration date updates, closed-account advices and
        contact-cardholder advices."

I seem to recall the last two credit cards I closed this year, the operator mention that any charges for 3-4 weeks after the date of closure can appear on the account.
Some banks allow you to block / unblock a credit card though their banking portal. So if used, it is declined.

    • Interesting. Those transactions were within a month of closing the card.

  • having similar experience with macq debit card. Keep getting notification about declined oversea transactions even after I had a card change.

  • You have to tell them to block those companies
