Why cant these things be made modular so that anybody can replace batteries later on like old times. Fixing this thing looks tough
Shame that now everybody is in that use and throw economy

    • Plenty on Aliexpress

      • +1

Are they available with the fast charging circuitry too? I like the idea of being able to use the same cells in my torches etc.. Or is it better to let them all degrade at the same rate

    • +7

No point. 90% of the manufacturing cost of these is in the cells, which can be replaced if you are keen.
Making them more easily replaceable would double the cost of the other 10%, and so actually increase waste.

    • Why didnt they make AAs with replacable alkaline juice or whatever they run on?
It was the "use and throw" economy in the old times too, you were just only throwing out the cells.

It's still hard to locate rechargeable batteries in supermarkets - often low/no stock or unreasonably expensive. ALDI used to stock them, but now they just have disposable ones. I guess they realised that there's more money to be made in wasteful products than a reusable one.

Most companies you can recall from your youth that allowed you to repair their products is now out of business and long gone.

        Sent from iPhone

        • iPhone at least will soon have to use USB-C for charging and have user replaceable batteries, if European laws carry over to us.

Thanks OP, replace the xiaomi 20w brick powerbank.

    • Literally same here.
XiaoMi's 20 000mAh brick has swelled abit after dropping it on the ground but still charges great.

      Hoping Anko's is as good!

  • Thanks OP.

Ordered Click and collect. Does anyone know how reliable the stock levels are on Kmart site?

    • +6

      Very very unreliable. Basically useless.

any chance to use this to charge 65w laptop?

    • +13

Have you read the first line of the OP or the product specs? :|

Keep in mind that anything over 10000mah may cause you issues getting through airport security.

      • -1

Ah thanks for heads up. I think I got confused with the 100wh limit and just assumed that meant 10000mah on my recent trip overseas (which I now realise is incorrect). I did see a woman ahead of me have her powerbank confiscated though and it was physically much smaller than mine, guessing it had unmarked rating when I think about it now.

        • +1

          Regarding the 100Wh limit:

          10000 mAh times 3.7 V (nominal voltage) = 37Wh.

So the max you can take is going to be a 27000mAh battery - without declaring. Some airlines will let you declare batteries up to 144Wh.

        • They may also take it if it shows signs of swelling, damage, etc.

          • @besttraveltech: It had some sort of pink sparkly outer covering so probably didn't show the rating properly or worn off, she was complaining she had taken it all over the world and this was the first time it had been questioned.

Might have been damaged, not sure.

  • no stock near by

  • Purchased a HeyMix 20000mah one on Amazon two weeks ago. It is a thing of beauty with its fast charging. $35.

    • +1

Whenever I see fast charging I quiver… it equates to heat which means faster battery deterioration.

      • Didn't know that!

I've used it 3-4 times so far and it hasn't felt warm. It's likely it's thick outer case is the reason though!

        • No it’s the thing you’re charging that will get hot. Charging is a chemical process that moves electrons inside your device’s battery (e.g. your laptop). As those movements occur, it generates heat. The faster you charge the faster they move the higher the heat. Heat kills those electrons and gradually makes them idle. Idle electrons is the reduction of your battery’s capacity and is irreversible.

    • only 22.5W right?

  • USB-C Input: 12V/3A

This thing must take years to recharge

    • if you are a fly, i guess

      Technical specifications:
      Charging time: 6 hours (approx.)

      • if you are a fly, i guess

Have flies unlocked time travel? This is huge!

They've always seemed to me smarter than they look, flies…

this thing looks cheap and nasty.

    • agreed, not sure I'd be comfortable plugging my laptop into it

      • Discontinued for a reason….

Whats the best small factor portable charger. Mrs needs one for handbag. Does not need to have too much charge. Maybe 2x Google pixel

Ugh if only it wasnt so ugly.

  • -1

    I’d only spend $39 for the ugliness…

  • This Anko or any cheap non brand powerbank from Aliexpress?

  • -4

Some airlines don’t allow power banks over 10000mAh

  • 1 left in my local K-Mart. Fingers crossed it's actually in stock.

  • Sign up onepass for $4 a month to get it free delivery.

  • showing stocked at 4/5 of mine

Ordered one of these a few days ago. Arrived today completely shattered. They didn't put any protection in the box. It doesn't work at all. Tried ordering a replacement but they're entirely out of stock now :(

    • So could you see what cells they were using or anything to indicate the original manufacturer.
