Cosby's Superstore (Omo Deal) Drama. Thoughts?

Just got the following email now following the cheap Omo deal IYKYK (I didn't purchase anything but I guess Shopify saved my fake email)

I believe this is a fake store, due to the inconsistancies in warehouse information, business information and pricing. What do you guys think? Are they real? Fake? Has anyone here purchased from them?

Checkout does not include Visa/Mastercard. Only AfterPay, EFT etc

I'll start the thread, you guys can discuss below.

It seems suss to me thag they're not fulfilling the Catch orders. I assume that Catch, similar to eBay, has the ability to take the funds away from the seller if they don't fulfil the order. I didn't buy any but am interested if others did. There were more than 7k units of the 1kg Omo on their website which slowly dropped to 0 after the night went on. Very surpised if they have enough stock to fulfil all of those orders

    • I ordered 5 of 1kg - see what happens otherwise will put a dispute to AfterPay.

  • +4

Just to add to the above, their Product Review page is completely full of fake reviews, with new accounts created to leave a 5 star review for Cosby’s and no other reviews since

Damn yet another ‘if it’s too good to be true it is’ deals - I don’t even bother anymore.

    • It's all to common these days, I ask myself sometimes, when was the last time, I saw a post from a friend in the feed on scambook..

      Back to market place scrolling.

With a name like Cosby did you expect it to be trustworthy?

If you have placed an order with us using Catch please cancel it.

That’s sus. Can’t Cosby’s cancel it from their end?

      • I had ordered from Catch and got a separate email from yourselves to cancel and re-order. You actually can’t cancel via Catch, all it does it give you an option to contact seller to which I did. After waiting an hour thinking it through I then called them. They stated that they can’t cancel and only the marketplace seller can. The agent said they called the seller, being you and were talking. I really thought they would cancel the order then and there and refund immediately though they wouldn’t. They raised a dispute which again goes via email and gives the seller 1 or 2 days to dispute. Catch don’t pay the marketplace seller straight away, it’s done weekly according to their site from researching. It’s all a little bit odd to me with no real assurance. Really if anyone bought from Catch you should allow buyers to receive the refund prior to buying again through you direct. Catch would have supplied customer records so I can’t see why that would prevent you from reservicing those customers.

        • +3

Sellers can cancel orders on catch, which then initiates a refund.
Cosby stating otherwise is just incorrect.
Catch also holds payments to sellers for 2 weeks before paying sellers.

Reasons for not honouring catch sales also doesn’t add up. Amongst a whole lot of other things..Given platform fees are clearly stated on sign up to the platform that Cosby would’ve signed.

Abr showed the business isn't registered for gst. It could also be that they have just started therefore not required to register to gst yet.

When you check website on whois, website linked to a different abn which is linked aloha furniture which website set up looked similar to cosby superstore.

It could be that the business is new and is opening different websites to target different types of customer.

@Tralala How can a business serve 'millions' of customers but not register for GST?

How are you able to sell the items such as Omo for that cheap price? Can you show us the picture of product in your warehouse?

Edit: not just cheap, basically you are giving them away at $10 for 7 kilo given the shipment alone will cost you way more than that.

Also, why no Credit Card / PayPal on your website? I have never seen a website where credit card is not a payment method.

    • +3

Thanks for your prompt reply and honesty. How do you even make profit from the OMO sales while selling at $2.50 and also offering free shipping alongside?

Cosby's Superstore is a registered business that has successfully served millions of Aussie's save money on everyday items

If the above is true, why the suspicious Product Review ratings and comments from users who just joined Product Review to only leave the only review to Cosbys?

Sorry until we (OzBargainers) believe that we get the products in hand, all of these are still grey area

How on earth is it possible to "serve millions of Aussies" yet have turnover of less than 75k? You're not registered for GST.

Good job at digging a deeper hole.

    "Hi attalisie,
We hope this email finds you well.

Thank you for placing your recent order. Unfortunately, we are unable to fulfil some item(s) as listed below: A refund has been processed back to the payment method used at the time of purchase. Please allow 2-5 business days for the refund to appear in your account.

Should the item still be available on Catch.com.au, please feel free to purchase it again.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding.

    • I got the exact same thing.

  • Has anyone else ordered directly through them? I have made a few orders just to test it out - more likely than not it won't be fulfilled.

  • @Cosbys Superstore how are your furniture prices so cheap and free delivery if legit? Why no offer of PayPal if legit?

  • -1

I still trust cosby, let's see whether they will fulfil the omo order

    • +1

      I still trust cosby

How'd they manage to gain your trust in such a short time?

Their Terms of Service are written in US English, even with a “[LINK TO REFUND POLICY]” left in.

They say they’ve served millions yet started in March, and if they’ve served millions, why aren’t they registered for GST?

None of their legal policies make references to Australia or Australian law - yet they operate in Australia?

Some reviews seem suspicious. Why does one mention their order was fulfilled by…Walmart?

With that said, the couple operating this venture aren’t well hidden - it didn’t take long to find details including a home address where one of their businesses is registered to. I doubt if they were scamming people that this information would be so easily found.

The owners interestingly seem to have been working on various businesses in the past, none of which seem to have ‘taken off’ as I can’t find further information on them - from travel, to food, furniture and more…

Either way, the business doesn’t seem particularly reputable in my personal opinion, given so many shortcuts taken on their website alone, but, I guess time will tell if these orders are fulfilled.

I am 50/50 on this one.

  • The whole saga is definitely turning out to be a fraud! I placed an order 3-4 days ago and when I check my order status, it says “it’s on its way”. Yay! But there is a problem - the estimated delivery is from August to October…lol. My last payment from Afterpay is in September so it’s very safe to assume at this point that they are dragging things enough to ensure that I can’t dispute the transaction with Afterpay. I will wait out for a few days to see what happens but yeah; things are looking very bad for this dodgy seller.

  • 100% scammers

Report to your credit card for refund if you got caught, and scamnet

    • that's the catch - they don't accept credit card so you can't report. Only AfterPay and ZipPay I think but yeah reporting is the only option

  • Scamnet WA are investigating this mob… avoid avoid .!!

Please report to scamwatch in your own state and merchant services if you have ordered anything.

    Don’t order on any medium….

  • I put a dispute last night on Afterpay and got refunded today meaning no payments will go through

    • Any idea how to raise the dispute? Thanks

  • +4
  • Has anyone actually received anything? It’s been 2 weeks now

    • Nope nothing, just disputed my transactions with Afterpay and waiting for an outcome.

      • How to file a dispute? Could you please tell me the process?

    • Got notification that items delivered.. there is no delivery.. what a scam.. have raised a dispute with Afterpay

      • How do you raise a dispute? I got a notification saying it was delivered but it’s not

        • Order dispute on Afterpay

Either a scammer has impersonated one of these two, or better yet, my theory is as follows:

Luke & Chloe may have had a relationship together and started Cosby's after they presented a local radio station in NSW ¹. They moved in together in a small unit in Macksville, NSW. The relationship had turned sour and Luke has taken off with a whole bunch of money, leaving Chloe to clean up the mess.

Luke tried to buy some more time when he found out about this thread and knew that the banks would be alerted earlier than he expected. So, he tried to assure all punters that it was a Catch issue and 'follow up with Catch but while waiting, buy through the website' for another quick cash grab.

Chloe Reading is closing the gap on inclusion with Radio Equal

Australian Capital Territory, Australia Jun 29, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - Chloe Reading a 30-year-old Australian broadcaster has launched her disability-inclusive satellite radio network (Radio Equal Network) A global network available in any country with access to the internet.

Miss Reading said " When I was an 11-year-old kid with no friends and very little social skills Pete took me under his wing and taught me everything I know about broadcasting, the education and wealth of knowledge I received from Pete is more than any university could have taught me.

When Miss Reading was asked why Radio Equal she said " I've lived a very sheltered life and hidden my disability from the eyes of the public, as a 30-year old I found I had come to a point in my life where I've learnt to be comfortable in my own skin. I no longer hide my disability from the world, I have Spina Bifida, This is me.

    • Yea, there's heaps of publicly available personal information for Chloe, but didn't want to post any personal details in case they were a victim here. One of the reasons why my story focused on it being a Luke actioned activity, as his web presence is largely hidden.

As for the state anomaly, it will just need a registered address so it's possible that she has property/family/existing businesses in WA.

  • I initiated a dispute with AfterPay a few days ago but still no update. In the meantime, these scammers have advised me that my items have been delivered. Shocking!!

    Received the following email:

    Dear Customers,

Please be advised that all orders placed 1st Aug to 28 Aug are being refunded.

This is due to a delivery/fulfilment failure on behalf of our third party supplier, (Sello Fulfillment)

We would like to remind our customers we are a dropshipping model business (middle man) and as such it takes some time to rectify issues with our suppliers.

We are aware of orders being incorrectly marked "Delivered" and we are currently investigating.

We ask for your patience while we process refunds, Please only contact us regarding your refund if you have not received refund notification by 1st September.

    • Thanks for sharing. I did not receive their email although have escalated through Afterpay to get a refund.

I think their excuse is a clear lie and all items on their website are a scam. They have on their newest page stuff like ice cream which is impossible to post https://cosbys.com.au/products/caramel-honey-macadamia-ice-c…

  • Hopefully all orders will be refunded soon

  • Just got my $2.50 refund after receiving the bogus delivery confirmation. Feels like a variant of micro-deposit fraud. They expect some purchasers won't be bothered asking for a $2.50 refund, so collect free money.

    • is the refund via Afterpay? I raised a dispute with them and Cosby responded saying "Refunded" but there is not refund and I am expected to either "Accept" or "Reject" this solution on Afterpay. I am not sure if I accept, will I see my money?

      • +1

Refunded by Afterpay back to my credit card, two payments of $0.63

  • When I first saw this appear on the Oz bargain site, I was too quick on the trigger finger and order some OMO.
This was despite, warning signs only accepting EFT and payapl and not being registered for GST and short
operating history. My stomach sank the next day when the post was removed. From the order placed on their
site on 6th of August, the tracking was stuck on order is on the way. On 28th of August, an email said it was
delivered (Not). All attempts to communicate through their email have been ignored. So I'm stuck with reporting
them to the ACCC and perhaps asking Choice what to do. I'm resigned that that is $25 I'll never see again.

    • Raise dispute on AfterPay and you will get full refund

  • i saw the OMO offer on OZ and purchase $100 worth. i got an email saying my order was delivered but didnt received anything. check the surveillance footage nothing also. i contact them multiple times but got no response. clearly seems like a scam

    • U saw the offer on oz and despite all the comments saying it smells like a scam and you still proceed with purchase. Hmmm.

    • I took a punt at $10 which I now disputed with Afterpay. Playing with $100 was a bit too much IMO. Please tell us that you didn't do bank transfer!

Hello, Cosby's has been processing refunds and returns since this all started happening. Our third party fulfilment centre which has been functioning up until this ordeal, we are going through every order that has not been delivered. Too much hands have tampered within Cosby's infrastructure which has caused a problem with status updates, misallocation of stock and misinformation in general. Cosby's stock..is Cosby's stock. We apologize for this frustrating inconvenience, we are looking for a different method to eliminate third parties. We will be going through every Proof of Delivery, the manifest and get to where every item has gone. Thankyou, and no we are not scamming anyone..I am one person trying to get through every email and msg or communication that comes through. That being said, ringing the number is not the best form of contact for Cosby's..please use email or store inbox so I can process every single one. We trusted the wrong businesses. Everyone seeking a refund for non-delivery of order will receive it.

Damn man! What would you do that… feel sorry for you, I honestly don't know if there is anyway to recover the funds. But you could lookup BSB/Account number to see which bank that account relates to and raise it with the bank to see if its recoverable. This offer was too good to be true and $1k was definitely not worth a risk, I took a punt with 4 orders with maximum of $20.

        • Did u get your money back?

  • honestly i dont read the comment unless required. for this case i only see the comments afterwards since i didnt get my OMO. i defaulty trust whatever is on OZ as long it was not posted but someone who is related to the store or the promo.i paid using afterpay since it was the only option. does anyone know if afterpay is like paypal where you can complain about not receiving the item

    • You can dispute the transaction but don't accept the resolution from the seller until you see the money back. I am going through same RN, I disputed a transaction and seller said refunded. I accepted the resolution and dispute closed but there is not refund. Afterpay is saying "bad luck" and contact the seller for a refund who is not responding. They are helping Cosby to scam the people..I never though AP will be this incompetent…

      • update: Aftepay contacted me to find out more about the seller and I have given them details including how they have tried to scam people using Afterpay. They will refund my money and do their own investigation re the seller.

      • Yeah well I didn’t accept the resolution, and then AfterPay closed the dispute in favour of Cosbys because I hadn’t responded in 10 business days.

Even though they told me not to.

I never realised how easy it was to scam people out their money just by using AfterPay lol.

I'm sorry you had to suffer but that's how it works. You have to do your due diligence research with stores you've never heard of before. Many of us were quick to point out that it was a scam from the very start, and all it took was a tiny bit of research.
