Presume you can have several accounts for this.

    • +1

yep. back when this was the caltex app, i had a few accounts. then it became ampol and my accounts all got a round of new discounts

  • Does it triple stack with the RACV discount?

    • Does not triple stack, I tried

      • I’m quite sure it worked for me before, must have changed recently if you’ve just tried.

        • It scanned but only one applied. Was maybe a week ago?

    • +1

      No.

EG Ampol will only let you stack up to three different types of fuel discount offers in a single transaction (and you can only redeem one of each type of discount when stacking):

      1. Woolworths fuel discount offer: the discount offer you earn when you spend $30+ in one transaction on eligible items at Woolworths / Woolworths Metro.

      2. Spend in-store offer: the discount offer you earn when you spend $5+ on eligible items in the EG Ampol convenience store.

      3. EG Club / partner discount offer: the discount offer you can access through the EG Club app (including this deal) or through a number of EG’s partners (e.g. Origin Energy, RACV). (The partner discount with RAA is an outlier, as that officially cannot be stacked with the Woolworths fuel discount offer unless otherwise advertised.)

      • Plus pay with a Woolworths E-Gift card? Bought at a 5% off (NSW Woolworths Seniors Card discount)

        • +1

Yep. EG Ampol allows you to use gift cards in conjunction with these fuel discount offers.

AFAIK, all EG Ampol service stations accept WISH eGift Cards as a payment method. There is wording you will see floating around on various websites saying that WISH eGift Cards are only accepted at participating EG service stations, but I suspect that language is left over from the days when EG used to run service stations selling fuel supplied by Chevron; those service stations did not accept the Woolworths fuel discount nor Everyday Rewards, but have since been converted to EG Ampol service stations.

Make sure to tell the EG staff member you would like to pay via eGift Card and be ready to manually punch in the gift card number and PIN.

  • Saw this on the Bowser today. How does paying at the pump on your phone go?

    • +2

You fill up then open the app, tap pay and drive off, hoping the clerk glancing out the window is aware there's now an app and isn't about to call the police non-emergency hotline to report a brazen petrol theft. Works about 80% of the time at Ampol/EG, the rest of the time the app shows an inexplicable error that forces you to go in store to pay.

      • that is specifically what I was curious about - the super awkward glance toward the cashier in the window. I feel like I'd be miming, pointing at my phone and mouthing "Paid on phone!"

        • i've never been questioned or accused of a drive-off. presumably they can see it on their consoles that your bowser has paid

    • +1

great when it works. otherwise be prepared to pay full price.

  • Unfortunately, there aren't that many EG Ampol's in Adelaide. Only 8. They do take physical Ampol GCs though but not digital GCs.

    • They do take wish egift and can use rewards dollars though

Ampol is the biggest rip off for fuel. Usually at least 10c higher than everyone else and around 15-20c higher than independents.

    • While that's true, it's not relevant to this post. EG is a completely different company.

    • Not around Melbourne. Wherever i've seen ampol its usually the same price for 91, however 95 is 13c higher. Over at shell, they charge 17c more for 95, completely invalidating my 4c coles discount. Switching to ampol from here on

  • How actual is the price showing on app? Found a really cheap fuel but only in that store

    • +1

Prices are updated on the EG website and app at regular intervals (every 30 minutes, I think?). It should be sourced from the API that EG uses in its service station locator.

I find the prices are correct… except for the one time where I drove to an EG, but as soon as I lifted the nozzle from the bowser, I saw the price board update and the price went up by 3c/L!

  • I tried stacking offers yesterday paying for fuel. Although, both EG app and Woolworths discount were printed on the docket, yet only woolworths was applied (North Road, Huntingdale)

The EG Club app discount will appear over two lines on the receipt:

      • EG Club App 5C/L Discount -$x.xx
      • EG App $0.00

The Woolworths fuel discount will appear on the receipt as either:

      • Paper Fuel Discount -$x.xx (if you were using a paper fuel discount), or
      • Woolworths fuel e-voucher -$x.xx (if you were using a digital fuel discount from your Everyday Rewards card)

If you cannot see EG Club App 5C/L Discount -$x.xx on your discount, I would call up EG for help. I one time called them to complain that I was unable to use Everyday Rewards Dollars at an EG in NSW despite my account having Everyday Rewards Dollars and my account being set to Money Off Shopping, and the area manager for the store eventually reached out to me to give me a 12c/L discount on my next fuel purchase…

      • +1

thank you, will try calling them

        • Did you manage to get to the bottom of what happened?

      • I always ask attendant to click "Pay Now" and then find the redemption option. I think it is the case here. Bunch freebie @Woolies is also working like this.

For the 6th free coffee @ Cole Express, the freebie is forcibly applied upon scan flybuys. The attendant has no option to not redeem it.

  • What's point of it after 3 fills? Just receive ad and pay @ the pump with no discout?

    • It honestly has limited appeal.

      • You can use the Pay At Pump feature (which is really for those who do not want to go into the convenience store to pay and would only be using Visa/Mastercard/AMEX debit/credit card to pay for their fuel anyway). You can still redeem a digital fuel voucher on your linked Everyday Rewards account through Pay At Pump, so you can still access one fuel discount.

      • It allows you to quickly see fuel prices at EG Ampol service stations across Australia, as well as operating hours and any facilities available. There are third-party apps and websites that will let see fuel prices though (e.g. state government fuel reporting apps across most of Australia, PetrolSpy), so that erodes a lot of the value of that feature.

      • You may be targeted with extra fuel discount offers in the future. I signed up to EG Club in early 2021, but I received four or five more 5c/L discount vouchers last year to coincide with the launch of the Pay At Pump feature, plus I was targeted with a 10c/L discount voucher a couple of months ago.

      • You will see a bunch of ads on the Rewards screen. Yay?

      • Do you know Why there's no transaction history in the account? I made 3 in the last 90 days. Does it only record transactions at the pump?

        • I have never used the Pay At Pump feature, but I suspect the Recent Transactions section is only for Pay At Pump transactions. I have made multiple fuel purchases at EG Ampol this year (including last night) and paid at the convenience store every time, but the Recent Transactions section is empty for me.

There is also the Rewards History tab, but that only shows me the transactions where I redeemed a fuel voucher stored on my Everyday Rewards account.

          • @WookieMonster: I removed EDR from EG Club account after 1k pts bonus offer last time. No rewards history for me, either. I scanned different EDRs with the same EG account and it worked fine. I think leave them separately is better.

  • Off topic, but, re EG, can you pay with EDR Rewards dollars? And, if so, are there any disadvantages to doing this? Ta!

    • Yes, tell the attendant that you want to redeem $EDR. It is an option after "Pay now".

No disadvantage when the price is competitive.

    • +1

You can redeem Everyday Rewards Dollars at EG Ampol service stations on mainland Australia only.

You cannot redeem Everyday Rewards Dollars (nor earn any Everyday Rewards points) at EG Ampol service stations in Tasmania, because those service stations are currently excluded from the Everyday Rewards program. You do get an extra 2c/L discount at these service stations when redeeming a Woolworths fuel voucher, so I think that is a fair trade-off, especially when you are in a state where fuel is rarely cheap and there are very few independent service stations…

    • +1

My original response was a little rushed, so here is a more complete answer.

You can only redeem Everyday Rewards Dollars at mainland Australia EG Ampol service stations if you are paying in-person at the convenience store. If you are paying using the Pat At Pump feature on the EG Club app, you cannot redeem any Everyday Rewards Dollars.

I cannot think of any important disadvantages of redeeming Everyday Rewards Dollars; you will still earn Everyday Rewards points and you can still claim fuel discount offers. A couple of weird edge cases come to mind though:

      • I doubt you can redeem Everyday Rewards Dollars and then pay any remaining amount owed using a fuel charge card (e.g. AmpolCard). However, nearly all EG Ampol offers specifically exclude any transactions involving fuel charge cards, so that is likely a moot point.

      • You may run into issues if you are going to seek a reimbursement of your fuel purchase at a later date. The redemption of Everyday Rewards Dollars will appear as Rewards Savings on the receipt, so it could look like a discount to someone auditing your claim that you took advantage of a discount offered by EG Ampol out of the goodness of their heart, rather than redeeming your own loyalty points. My company only reimburses me where I use a personal credit card (although they really mean any Visa/Mastercard/eftpos/AMEX etc cards, so prepaid and debit cards are fine), so I pretty much always avoid redeeming store-specific gift cards or loyalty points when making a claimable expense on a work trip.
