Was it under warranty?
I must admit I’m so lost as to all the different Dyson models out there. I just want a good stick vacuum for $50 that has good suction

We have this. Beware that you can't use attachments for other non-Slim models because the end of the tubes have a diagonal slope, rather than the usual 90 degree angle. We found out when we had to replace the carpet cleaning motorhead and thought we could use a V10 or V11 head. And at least in Australia, replacement motorheads aren't available online or through third pary sellers. Luckily we had a Dyson centre nearby that had one.
That all said, if you don't break or lose accessories, it's great to have a much lighter model, esp for the elderly etc.
