Rex has a mid-week promo sale on. Ie it's cheaper to fly during the week. Of course, that doesn't mean there aren't other days that are cheap too! I've gone through and found the cheapest dates for the next 3 months.

These one way fares from Rex include checked luggage and carry-on.
Rex also has the lowest cancellation rate of any airline in Australia in the past month.

If looking for a return flight, consider that two one ways can sometimes be cheaper.

Note that Rex's new route, Hobart <-> Melbourne has just started on August 17th!

Consider one of the more unusual accommodation options in Australia for your stay.

Summary:
Melbourne - Hobart (17 Aug - 31 Oct) from $70
Hobart - Melbourne (17 Aug - 31 Oct) from $70
Melbourne - Adelaide (1 Aug - 31 Oct) from $82
Adelaide - Melbourne (1 Aug - 31 Oct) from $80
Sydney - Melbourne (1 Aug - 31 Oct) from $92
Melbourne - Sydney (1 Aug - 31 Oct) from $77
Sydney - Gold Coast (1 Aug - 31 Oct) from $82
Gold Coast - Sydney (1 Aug - 31 Oct) from $79
Brisbane - Sydney (1 Aug - 31 Oct) from $90
Sydney - Brisbane (1 Aug - 31 Oct) from $90
Gold Coast - Melbourne (1 Aug - 31 Oct) from $92
Melbourne - Gold Coast (1 Aug - 31 Oct) from $92
Canberra - Melbourne (1 Aug - 31 Oct) from $90
Melbourne - Canberra (1 Aug - 31 Oct) from $92
Brisbane - Melbourne (1 Aug - 31 Oct) from $106
Melbourne - Brisbane (1 Aug - 31 Oct) from $108

I've worked out tables of every single date, route and price and linked it on the original post, but unfortunately it's too big for ozbargain's forms, so click through here to see the full list of tables.

wish they had direct flights sydney to cairns

Jetstar discounted them out of the market on that route then jacked their prices up

      • JQ never discounted Rex out of that market considering Rex never flew that route in the first place.

That's worth the price of the ticket right there.

On busy domestic routes Qantas and virgin usually have plenty of capacity so they can usually get you going on a nearby flight so usually it’s not a big deal. But for jetstar if your PM flight is cancelled then it’s rare you’ll be able to get a seat on a jetstar flight on the same day….

Rex having the lowest cancellation rate here is worth the 20 extra compared to jetstar everyday of the year.

  • Damn Brisbane to Sydney on 1st of October is $176 thats when i want to fly and it has to be the most expensive 😭

hey op when should i book a flights do you think i read it can be best booking them last minute?

I noticed that sweet spot is one month in advance for domestic on busy routes

      • +1

Yep. I fly between Sydney and Melbourne almost weekly and can confirm booking 3-4 weeks out is when the price is as low as it’s going to be except when there’s major event (F1, concert etc).

        • yeah trying to go to nrl grand final so waiting for better prices

    • I've been trying the date for Brisbane/Goldcoast to Melbourne for a couple months now and it hasn't dropped below $200 anywhere.

The current Rex price is the same that it has been this past month.

  • Looks like the majority are turboprops. How good are those handling turbulence? Can anyone share their experience flying with REX?

    • Rex flights between capitals use 737 aircraft (same as Virgin/QANTAS)

  • How come I can never book at the prices listed on the tables? The GC to Syd flight on 30 Sep is coming up at $335 instead of the advertised $158. What am I doing wrong?

    • Weekend and NRL grand final weekend.
The cheap prices listed are for midweek travel.

  • Thank god for Rex. They are second IMO after qantas but much better value for money. Virgin has been terrible for me last few times. Constantly cancelling flight last minute and bumping everyone on to the next flight 2-3 hours later when it clearly looks like they were just trying to max out seating on the flight and not caring about passengers itineraries.

Regional is legit in their name, but the flights here are purely from megacity to megacity. Meh…
