Has Anyone Sent Perfume Internationally before?

Looking to send a discontinued perfume (50ml) to a friend in New Zealand. I know Aus Post won't accept it so I'll have to look into using a courier service that will accept dangerous goods.

Has anyone used any courier services to send perfume internationally before? Which courier did you use and roughly how much did it cost?

Thanks in advance.

  • Buy it from NZ and post it to the person?

    e.g. https://www.chemistwarehouse.co.nz/

    • It's a discontinued perfume so that won't be possible unfortunately.

      Username checks out!

(I admit that I've asked mates to send it to me a few times (domestically) and it's always arrived without any problem).

    • Are you nuts?

        How many levels are there?

    Yes, I have..
I worked at a place that created a wide range of amenities - I would regularly need to ship samples, occasionally perfume would rear its ugly head.
To courier any amount of perfume in a legal way requires you to have an MSDS - the package also needs to be labelled in a specific way and there may also be box grade standards…

As a general guide, expect it to cost around $600-$800AUD to NZ - it will need to be done through a freight forwarder.
Most of this cost is comprised of the dangerous goods paperwork.

It will likely be cheaper for you to fly with it.

TNT claim they do it - https://www.tnt.com/express/en_au/site/how-to/ship-dangerous… - you will still need an MSDS AND you will need to label it in the correct way or it will be refused (i can almost guarantee that you will get it wrong so I would not bother).
I have only ever tried between China and Australia - and Europe and Australia - and on both occasions UPS refused to carry the dangerous goods.

Long story short - you're gonna have a bad time.

    • Yeah I've been reading up on the T&Cs of a few couriers, perfumes seem like one of those items that will be a pain in the ass to send internationally. Guess I'll just wait for my NZ friend to visit Oz and they can pick it up in person. Thank you for your input.

Fly over, drop in a mailbox, fly back. Pick up some paua shells or something to return with.

    • This is (hilariously) probably the cheapest answer

Buy an earthmoving machine. Let's say 60 tonne excavator.Hollow out some of it's key structure. Inside that place a floor safe with a laptop inside it.Put the perfume inside the laptop. Wrap the entire digger in a few wraps of carbon paper. Place it all in an APOST ebay seller prepaid envelope, with some Chinese characters on it. Write 'gift' in shaky writing.
    Post

    You're welcome.
