Main usages are web browsing, watching videos, and the occassional software. So nothing strenuos.
Having said that, would still like to get best bang for buck. What's the best go-to- bang-for-buck laptop under $500?
Not in a rush so happy to wait for a good deal but just need to know which ones to keep an eye out for.
Nah no 4K video edits haha. Might run Ultimaker Cura for 3D printing here and there. The occassional Photoshop for an edit or two. That's all I can really think of for now.

Well i would only use it several times a year if that, and even then just pretty basic features that wouldn't require significant compute power.

With the refurbs, is there a particular make / model I should look for? I seen Lenovo X380 refurb posted recently but when I read the comments, they seemed a bit meh.

Will be mostly browsing the web, YouTube, watching movies, that's 99% of the usage. The only other software that I might use here and there is Ultimaker Cura which is quite light as that worked perfectly fine on my 12 year old laptop. So yeh very light use.
And yep Best, still want to get the best that $500 can get me.
