Got a call from Samsung offering a loyalty voucher for the fold 5 so thought i'd check the website to see how much it is and ran across this with the usual bonus trade in of $500 on top of your trade in but also free upgrade on storage as well as free 1 years Samsung Care+ this time. Guessing their preorders are much lower than expected this year. Will comment once i get the voucher which is yet to come through, Samsung is going to extra lengths this year actually telemarketing their phone. Doubt i'll be buying it as its no different to my Fold 3 but maybe it'll help someone.

    Am I wrong to say that Samsung and Apple are greedier since Huawei can't have Google services?

      samsung's profit went down like 95% last quarter and their profit is at its lowest since 2010.
      Apple is holding up for now.

      noticed all the other Chinese phone manufacturers starting to creep in to the Oz market though and prices are definitely not on the cheap side of things. i really don't think it's because of Huawei, its more like companies are greedy no matter what just like people ;-)

        Less competition higher price. if huawei is still there, other Chinese brand will have to cut price. Now, all they need to do is to stay slightly below Samsung. Samsung's pricing is also pushed up by the fact of lacking competition. At least in the OZ market.

      I liked my Huawei P20 Pro and I was going to be loyal to the brand till they lost the battle with Google…

      Yeah the s23 ultra cost of materials is $469 usd or $725 aud, not including any overheads, testing, software, R&D cost. Yet retail is near $2,000. It's a bit much

    I was offered a lot more managed to get it down to $1600 +free upsize+ free 1 year samsung care, + free watch 5. This was before trade-in value of my phone.

        It was last month, an ozbargain post. The extra watch 5 watch for the first X people.
        Was thinking of getting it 2 weeks ago as thought it was good but decided my s23U was better.

        That offer is most likely over

          decided not to buy as well - the front screen is annoyingly slim vs S23 Ultra, for a $2600 phone consumers should not have to make any compromise. Figure the fold/unfold routine to make full use of the phone gets tiresome eventually.
