Unlimited International Talk and Text and Roaming Plans When Overseas

Hi

I am moving overseas for extended period of time. A lot of people have been recommending Amaysim.

If I choose a plan with Unlimited international talk and text, do I still need to buy the roaming pack in order to receive text overseas? I mainly use it for receiving SMS for banking here in Aus.

If I choose a plan with Unlimited international talk and text,

Unlimited international talk and text, is for calling/texting from Australia to international destinations. (Not the other way round)

do I still need to buy the roaming pack in order to receive text overseas?

The roaming packs give you 365 days validity + limited quota for Calls in-out / Texts out / Data (if any) for use at overseas destinations.

I mainly use it for receiving SMS for banking here in Aus.

Receiving SMS whilst overseas is free (mostly the case), but make sure international roaming is available and activated (if not automatic).

Any Calls in-out / Texts out / Data used whilst overseas will be on PAYG, if no roaming pack is added.

    • Thanks! That's useful

Felix is a pretty good option, roaming plan is $20 a year and you can receive (not send) unlimited SMS. If you use up the calls/sms/data just top it up again for another $20. You can also pause the actual Australian plan while you're overseas so you'll pay $17.50 for the first month, $20 for the roaming and that's it. I did that recently while overseas, it was very quick and simple as they also support esims.

Then just get a local sim in whatever country you're going to. For extended periods that's cheaper than using roaming.

  • Theres also WiFi calling option

  • How does WIFI calling work.

Do we need to pay for receving / making call on WIFI or its free.

    thanks

  • Strictly to receive incoming SMS only, you don't need roaming pack or international calls/text.
Once you are overseas , your phone will connect to one of local network (local network selected is based upon some agreements telecom companies have - I dont fully understand it) , then you can start receiving SMS.

Roaming pack is required only if you want outgoing calls/texts.

You just need to make sure you keep your Australian SIM/number active (yearly plan etc)

    • Thanks! Is this true for Coles Mobile? I am on a very cheap 120gb per year plan. :)

How does one find out whether it would work for a specific country?
