720,000 pounds won in freelotto bonanza

I have just won 720,000 pounds in the free lotto bonanza. Excited and nervous as I haven't seen so much money ever in my life (and probably never will), cant decide what to spend on (any help would be appreciated) :p

Here is the text that I got on my mobile:

Transaction no: 4224
Your mobile number has won 720,000.00 pounds in the ongoing freelotto bonanza for claim email: [email protected]"

Jokes aside, I'd be eager to know how they got my mobile number. Any suggestions to stop this? I have won few other lottos too (forgot to claim :p). I want to completely stop this kind of spam(s) reaching my personal mobile. Has anyone had similar experience? What have you done to stop this?

All suggestions are welcome and heartily appreciated

1st Congrats, if you want a secure way to transfer the money, just PM me your bank details.
    Cheers /notserious/

Probably from companies selling your info when you were filling out forms from freebies/purchasing things

In order to stop it, when filling out forms, you can 'fake' some unimportant details(Name, Number, etc)

  • You have 720,000 pounds so pay and get a new mobile.

Frankly they dont need to get your mobile number, just generate any number that starts with +61 4 Since it costs them nothing for the SMS why worry if some just disappear into the ether.

Seems like I really am the lucky one out of millions of numbers starting with +61 4. If I am destined to be a millionaire, so be it

  • Ozpete is on the money. But gumtree and any local classifieds or adverts ate ideal.

  • LOL

I just received this message 2 days ago (on the 09/09/12) from +447557668458 saying that:

    SCAM!

      SCAM!

Really? Maybe they are just giving it to another Ozbargainer since bghunter didn't take it up. You really shouldn't be so judgemental… LOL

  • Hello there bghunter; I too have just recieved a mobile text message as of Sunday night (16th), from a supposed overseas telephone number +447557387247 - and with the same information of 720,000.00 British pounds. But the email is different…[email protected] and you say you got one too, with the same information.

This kind of criminal act is an act of "Claim Jumping" by fraud and misrepresentation. Such people ought to be caught and put to death for such vile crimes.

Thanks for sharing your expereince with us too.

    TS.

Such people ought to be caught and put to death for such vile crimes.

Now now. Nobody likes those people, but surely this is over the top. There are far worse crimes, I'm sure you know.

  • It used to be that mobile calls and SMS cost enough to be a barrier to phishing, but now with the falling costs of comms, you will see more of these. The other day I got a missed call purportedly from the US. Actually they tried twice, first with Caller ID blocking, then showing a +1 855 toll-free number. A web search showed that this number is associated with scam calls. Naturally I ignored it. But I think it will not be the last time.

The next time if I happen to catch them when the phone rings, I will answer and leave it off the hook to use up their money, hahaha.

    • I'm pretty sure they will hang up…or are likely to have some sort of unlimited calls plan…

      • Actually these telemarketeers use auto dialers that detect if there is a voice at the other end after pickup and connect the call to the next available scammer, er customer service agent. You can see this in action, next time answer such a call in a soft voice and you'll find seemingly nobody at the other end. But you can cost them a few seconds of connection before the auto dialer gives up.
