Worth Repairing Samsung Tablet or Not?

Hi all. I was the lucky few people whom managed to get the Samsung tablet from Optus (the 4G model) last year for cheap. The charging port needs to be repaired and i was quoted $155 from iCure.

Is it worth it or not?

  • if you got it last year, surely its under warranty

    • Apparently charging port isn't covered under warranty

      • That sounds very sus.

I'd push the point as regardless of what their warranty states, consumer law gives you some protections. To be clear though - push this with Optus, not Samsung as they are the company you have a contract with.

Samsung Mobile devices has 2 years of warranty in Australia. Take it to a "Samsung Store" and have them accessed your device, if they can't confirm it was mis-handled or dropped, they will repair it under warranty.

  • Contact your state consumer advocate and find out what you are entitled to as far as redress. If you have to get it repaired, get a few quotes first. Only you know whether it's 'worth' repairing.

  • Thanks all for the reply. I contacted Samsung live chat on Sunday and they told me to drop it off to Harvey Norman, Liverpool. Apparently, they deal with sending it off for repairs, which ended up at iCure. I genuinely don't know wtf is going on.

I'll give them a call back now.

  • I would say it's worth a go getting it done under warranty

  • Apparently iCure are going to escalate it and that I'll receive a phone call from the manager…

  • If you don't get anywhere with the warranty repair, could be worth trying to repair it yourself with a kit off eBay and a Youtube video. Parts should be about $10-15. Youtube video is free. Only your time as a cost.

I've repaired plenty of phones (screens, ports) myself doing the same method. Takes about 15 minutes.

  • I did the live chat route. I got this tablet for my mum. She has assured me that she's careful with it. I am now seriously thinking it won't be covered under warranty.

Appreciate your patience Charbel, as per checking the case the technician note that the issue is due to customer induce damage, and since you did not agree with the result, the technician raised a case to a case manager for a free of charge replacement. The request is created today Charbel, What I'm going to do is to send a follow up to the case manager, please expect a call within 3 business days.

  • Yeah, starting to think she mishandled it. I'll be closing this thread. Thanks all.
