Looking for mSATA SSD (60GB)

Hey guys, I recently bought the Lenovo E520 posted here and was after to add an mSATA SSD as a cache/OS. Where would the best place to get a 60-64gb version? I've checked mydigitaldiscount and they charge $40 for shipping :\

I checked on ebay and saw

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-KingSpec-64GB-mSATA-Mini-Pcie-64…
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kingspec-Mini-SSD-mSATA-32GB-Solid-S…

etc, has anyone bought one off ebay? are they dodgy?

Cheers

  • What are you hoping to achieve? or do you have some application that requires such a massive cache?

    Really interested actually :)

  • haha nothing too interesting unfortunately! just wanted to see what kind of boot/application time benenfits i'd see with just cache… and when I have some more time in the holiday, reinstall everything on it. maybe i'm using some terms wrong, coz i'm not that tech-savvy though. would 32gb be sufficient for my purposes?

i was also thinking of replacing the optical drive with a caddy and ssd but after the cost of a caddy and learning how to do it, might not be worth it…

    • I think there are diminishing returns when going beyond 32GB.

  • Just thought of 2 more options you could do with a mSATA SSD.

    1. Run a mSATA SSD along side a 2.5" SSD and have a conventional HDD in a caddy in the ODD slot and have the mSATA SSD cache that.

    2. Run a mSATA SSD and have two conventional HDDs for lots of storage space. (Now I'm thinking of doing this myself instead of having a SSD+HDD)

  • Try crucial if you are after 64gb, I think they charged $25 flat for shipping. But I am not sure if that will work similar as cache drive. I've got the 128GB before as the own drive in the Windpad and works perfectly.

Or may be I could be thinking of selling my 32GB one… ;-)

  • I got a ADATA SX900 64GB for Sin$119 from Bizgram in Singapore. When I asked the owner they said they can ship stuff over for about S$10 each. Try their website if interested.
