I'm looking for a Windows laptop sub-$1K that will be able to handle some light audio production on top of the usual computing usage of video calls, browsing etc. So looking at 16GB RAM (can upgrade if the model is better but has less RAM) and at least 512GB SSD.
On sale right now are a few options that have caught my eye:
- 12th Gen i5, better GPU(?) and 16GB RAM.
- 13th Gen i5, only 8GB RAM but upgradeable.
Is there anything else on the market currently that trumps these deals?
This one is a good option. Bright larger screen would be useful for your use case. Webcam seems a step up as well.

Ssd can be upgraded either during purchase or afterwards.
You don't need a GPU and the extra heat one generates will shorten the life.
