Travel Insurance COVID-19 Cover, Tips for Travelling with Kids?

2015 is last time I fly international. Is Covid insurance still a thing these days? my top cover with insure and go is $467 do I really need that level of cover?

Do they still provide the pillows and headset in your flight? I'm pretty sure years back I had my own ear phones it works on Bluetooth yes?
What’s that adapter you plug into the arm rest for again if wired headphones.

Travel pillows small and compact any recommendations?

I have an old psp handheld from years back and to keep kids occupied in between flights where is the best place to get a battery for it.
Obviously mine does not hold or charge anymore and you need to plug it in to use.
It’s a uk edition so not sure if any difference.

  • Some countries still have rules about what you can/can’t do if you get covid, so you’d want to check the rules for where you’re going. If you are going anywhere where you need to stay put, you’ll want to consider travel insurance that covers anything you’ve lost by needing to stay still (other hotels, other transport).

Otherwise, just check what’s covered under comprehensive and see if that’s what you need. It may well not be.

    • I assume OP has abbreviated pillows, but stand to be corrected.

Oh I hope not. Small and compact travel pills sounds interesting.

        • Is from WA. Customs and Border protection have been collecting some large quantities of recreational pharmaceuticals there.

  • Some airlines have apps you download on your tablet/phone before you go, and use that for your inflight entertainment. They still give out pillows, headsets, though

Always wonder what they do with the headsets after each flight though?

  • I recently bought travel insurance and found some policies still specifically exclude covid cover, except if you get the top level.

Also, couldn't find a good credit card that included a comprehensive level of insurance. If anyone knows of one, let me know!

Depends on your airline, destination and seating class…

  • Buy 2 headsets for the kids (got mine from amazon) - airline ones don't fit well and they collect them before landing.

Most new planes supports single 3.5mm jacks for headsets now. Unless you are travelling on a cheap carrier you won't need the 2 prong adaptor.

Make sure the kids are well fed and don't load them up with sweets. If it s long flight make sure they have at least a short nap and not let them be glued to the screen for hours. Take them for a walk in the plane once every few hrs.

As I learnt from the gate agent in Dubai, don't board your next flight with an empty sick bag in hand (my kid was just playing with it). Apparently they can deny boarding if they suspect that you are sick.

This is from taking 10 and 7 year old s in a 27 hour flight 4 months ago. In reality kids fared better than the adults!

Kids have headset aready not the greatest but better than airline ones for sure.

So you don’t need the 2 prong adapters anymore?
i not done flights since 2015 and even back then i thought 2 prong adapters was a bit dated.
But it must still be a thing as 2 prong adapters are still widely available to buy.
I’m with Qatar then British airways for short flight but Qatar pretty much most of the flights do they have the 3.5mm jacks

      • On most newer planes at least one of the 2 sockets support both the L and R audio channels. I am not sure of Qatar specifically though.

So you can just plug in the standard 3.5mm jack to a single socket.

On Emirates with the new IFE you can even connect Bluetooth headsets to it.
