strangely true @Elijah, I've tried many brands like Nissin, and some korean instant noodles…but just can't match Indomie :)

I was about to buy a box of 30 of these for $11 from IGA. after swearing off of noodles since my uni days I only recently discovered they are a very handy luch item for those times you CFB or don't have time to leave the office for food.

    • +9

Hate to be that guy but don't go too nuts… These are probably one of the worst things you can eat.

      • +5

@Timski, I bought my first dslr just by eating this shit for almost 2 months lol. Good times!

        tips:
to get more variety, add some meatballs (steal them from the "communal" fridge)
ketchup, dark sweet sauce, vegies … yumm

      • -7

These are probably one of the worst things you can eat.

        why?

        • +9

          no nutritional value!! :P

        • +2

Because a big mac is probably healthier, at least it has lettuce.

Also google palm oil (trans fat) its in the ingredients. Apparently its banned in america becuase of how addictive it is. My tip is dont use the oil sachet it comes with and use some good quality olive oil or something else.

      • +4

I had these (Indomie Original Flavour) for 5 years.
1 year college, 4 years uni.
2 packets per meal, 3 meals per day (occasional 4 during assignment nights), 6 days a week.

I'm glad to report that, as of today, I'm still alive.
Its fed me well over the years.
Don't know what I would've done without em.

        I <3 Indomie!

P.s, Anyone want empty Indomie boxes? Have about 25 empty boxes left to get rid of.

        • +1

Lord…… I wonder what body shape you got.
          "You are what you eat."

        • A noodle…covered in slick palm oil, I'm guessing. :P

        • +2

I find this interesting, as my previous housemate used to only get these as well, and drink pepsi, after 7 weeks he ended up in hospital with sodium poisoning and it trashed his liver.

        • Hmm… jsjslim may just be gollum from LOTR.

Indo mie.. my preciousss! /sibilant hiss

        • How ppl can live on this everyday? If I have these things 3 days in a row, I would totally throw up.

Anyone care the share recipe variations? I'll be stocking up at these prices.

    • +1

      Just add MSG.

    • +2

Do not keep the soup when you eat it. I've heard that some people actually keep the soup and eat it with these noodles LOL (you are doing it wrong)

      • +1

        what soup ?

i just soak them in boiling water for 2 minutes, strain them and add the spices.

      • yea my asian roomate told me off about that, why? i like the soup

    • +1

boil the indomie, after that whisk 3 egg, and put that indomie on that scramble egg and it taste slurrppp.. (martabak indomie)

or just stir fry it with some vegie, bacon, sausage, chicken add some sweet soy sauce , taste good

    • +1

Peanut butter for a more satay taste.

    • I shallow fry some tofu and random vegetables (carrot, broccoli, whatever…), then strain the cooked noodles and add to the pan. Mix up the flavour sachets in a little bowl and add to the pan, with a little more kecap manis/soy/chilli if there's not enough sauce for the whole thing. If you can pick up vegetables on the cheap, this makes it still a really really budget meal. Hell, as a student it was often a last resort "I have nothing but carrots and mi goreng" meal, and it was much better than eating them separately (boring) :):)

  • +4

mmm fry up an egg, add the softened noodles, add prawns (non-studens lol), and fresh coriander and a squeeze of lemon juice, then the powder and spices.. yum!@!

    • i add tuna to mine or left-over chicken.

  • So are these better than from an Asian grocer?…
I usually get a box of 6 5 packs for $11. So that works out to.. $1.83 each. (vs this $1.47 each)
    So great deal.
and yes I'd recommend trying these noodles, they're pretty good.

  • +10

probably going to be sold out in Bentley

  • Costco have MiGoreng for about $6.50 pack 30 from memory. Not Indomie though but taste good as well.

    • +2

Not Indomie though but taste good as well.

      Not possible…

      • same company, different product names according to WIKI

" An early instant noodle in Indonesia was "Supermi", introduced in the 1970s by Indofood Sukses Makmur, the largest instant noodle producer in the world. It later introduced two additional brands – "Indomie" and "Sarimi".

Currently, Indofood Sukses Makmur has a market share of about 70% of Indonesian instant noodle production. In 1999, the figure was about 90%; their market share declined following the introduction of "Mie Sedaap" by Wings Food in 2003."

    I would be careful about eating these guys, they are packed full of palm oil. Just google palm oil and you'll see what's wrong with it;

    1. Palm oil is more than 50% saturated fat (compared to around 10% for canola and other vegetable oils). It's creeping into so many packaged goods it's a bit scary.

    2. Oil palm plantations are the main cause of deforestation in Asia, places like Borneo and Sumatra are being severely deforested and taking with it the habitats of endangered animals such as the orangutan.

Australia is one of the biggest consumers of palm oil, it's the cheapest form of oil, and companies stuff their products full of it to bring costs down (even Woolworths and Coles bread has palm oil in them!)

If you have a conscious, please try to avoid palm oil! Your health will benefit from it too.

        • +1

indomie ..orangutan …. man…he needs vacation lol

      • lol you guys not getting this, he's saying he's stuck up. which clearly he is.

    • +8

Not to detract from the fact that Indomie is one of the unhealthiest foods that you eat. Palm oil is one of the best oils you can consume. On the other hand vegetable oils are the worst oils you use for cooking as they contain Polyunsaturated fats because these omega-6-rich oils are highly susceptible to heat damage.

The myth that saturated fat causes heart disease has undoubtedly harmed an incalculable number of lives over the past several decades. While it may have begun as an unsupported marketing strategy for Crisco, this mistaken belief began solidifying in the mid-1950's when Dr. Ancel Keys published a paper comparing saturated fat intake and heart disease mortality. Keys based his theory on a study of six countries, in which higher saturated fat intake equated to higher rates of heart disease. However, he conveniently ignored data from 16 other countries that did not fit his theory.

Had he chosen a different set of countries, the data would have shown that increasing the percent of calories from fat reduces the number of deaths from coronary heart disease. And, if all 22 countries for which data was available at the time of his study are included, you find that those who consume the highest percentage of saturated fat have the lowest risk of heart disease.

Unfortunately, the idea that saturated fat is bad for your heart has become so ingrained in the medical and health community that it's very difficult to break through that misinformation barrier. Still, the fact of the matter is that the saturated fat-heart disease link was a hypothesis that did not stand up to further scrutiny.

dear God, they've been poisoning me without my consent!

    • +2

I would be careful about eating these guys, they are packed full of palm oil.

I don't add the oil satchet, just the spices and sauce.

      • +1

Erm…actually I'm with him on this. Sometimes I add my own oil (i.e. sesame oil or even extra virgin). Will probably live 3 seconds longer that all your guys per packet of noodles.

        • or even extra virgin

          hmmm… might try that one…

        • +3

if you try, you have to marry her ;-)

      • Before you climb on your high horse, remember that the actual noodles contain palm oil too, not just the sachet.

    • +1

The beauty about palm oil is that after consuming the meal, you can rub some into your hands to create a delightful softness.

    • +3

I find myself applying a certain oil to my palm every night before bed

they're $10 for a box of 40 from asian grocers when on special so this "may" be 50% off and you don't need to buy in bulk but pack to pack comparison it's just bringing down the huge price Coles normally charge

    • just bought a pack of 40 from dandenong for $11

    • -1

this is different from asian grocers, asian groces sell the one with no import quality and its slightly smaller compare to coles

      • just checked 85g per pack in the box, i think coles is the same weight?

      • that is ridiculous

  • +2

Will you loose weight if you eat this for a month?

    • +8

      You'll loose 1kg everyday.

      • Yeah, there's been studies, y'know.

    • It's a packet of 5, so you'll probably lose weight if you spread that over a month.

I remember a charity event that involved eating only $2 a day… This would get you through the week easy.

  • Definately Cheap… buy buy

  • +1

One packet doesn't keep me full. Usually need 1.5 packets. Wished they had a low fat version.

    • +10

They do have a low-fat version though. Don't add all the oil and fat from two packets.

I go 3 myself, so good!

One time, on a bit of a rowdy night, I found a massive 40 litre metal pot so I cooked over 20 packets of Migore at once. The MSG was literally swirling above the pot in a deadly cloud.

      But it was awesome.

      • +1

Did you eat all the soup too? ;-)

    • Usually need 1.5 packets

      Huh ??? you don't eat a 5-pack in one sitting ???

  • +2

MSG to the Max. Probably why they taste so good

  • That stuff cant be good for you

  • Thanks OP, i love this stuff!

  • Best noodles ever! Yay for science!

  • All the good things in life are not healthy :D

    • you need a GF…

  • -2

Only ONE more day to go !!!!

  • Indomie seleraku.

    • Indomie rasa enakkkk ya :D

  • +1

I really wish Coles and Woolies would expand their range. I was recently at Hypermart in Indonesia and they have an entire massive isle with over 50 different types of instant noodles. I filled my suitcase :)

At least they should sell Indomie Extra Pedas… mmm yum. I know you can buy them at Asian grocers but I'm yet to find anyone who stocks anywhere near even 10% of the brands that are available!

  • Obligatory "INDOMIE MI GORENG IS AWESOME" post.

  • i remember my housemate consumed 5 of these in one sitting, yes all 5 packs

  • I'm going to buy a few of these, throw out the noodles, and eat it with slimpasta. Yay low carbers.

  • Mi Goreng. The asian man's spinach.

  • -1

Very cheap. Although I've eaten a lot of these, I never really thought they were that tasty. I much prefer the thicker and slightly dearer Korean varieties if I am ever desperate enough to eat these. But they are infinitely better than Maggie noodles. That stuff is just gross.

  • is it just me, and not to open a #SydneyRiot discussion, but the ones they were offering in Coles were Halal only?
